Former White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney stated during a recent interview that “somebody very close” to former President Donald Trump had to have tipped off the FBI just before the bureau raided his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
That’s quite a claim to make, but would it really be all that shocking to think the FBI would have someone close to Trump? The FBI has been discovered time and again attempting to work against the former president, playing a role in the Russia hoax and all sorts of corruption.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility to think that they would attempt to put someone close to Trump as a means of trying to find out information on him that would in some way incriminate the former president and prevent him from taking another shot at the White House.
Mulvaney, according to a report from Newsmax, appeared on CNN Thursday, just three days after the FBI raided Trump’s home. There have been a number of reports that have come out since then that have claimed the reason for the raid was due to the handling of presidential records, which includes classified documents, after leaving office.
Here’s more information from the Newsmax report:
Rolling Stone reported that Trump asked associates if they think his phones were bugged by the feds. Newsweek, citing government sources, said the raid was the result of a “confidential human source.”
Mulvaney was asked who “in Trump’s orbit” would have known the location of the since-confiscated documents.
“I didn’t even know there was a safe at Mar-a-Lago, and I was the chief of staff for 15 months,” Mulvaney told CNN. “This would be someone who was handling things on day to day, who knew where documents were, so it would be somebody very close to the president.
“My guess is there is probably six or eight people who had that kind of information. I don’t know the people on the inside circle these days, so I can’t give any names of folks who come to mind, but your instinct, I think, is a good one.
“If you know where the safe is and you know the documents are in 10 boxes in the basement, you’re pretty close to the president.”
Mulvaney, who previously served as a representative from South Carolina, called for the bureau to be transparent and explain what evidence they had in their possession to indicate that the former president’s documents were at “imminent risk” of being concealed or destroyed.
He then went on to mention a legal analyst for CNN who referred to the raid as overreach if it was “just about documents.”
“If you’re Republican, the reason you’re asking, acting the way that you are the last 48 hours, is that you really do feel like you’re not getting fair treatment from your own government, and that’s a very dangerous place to be,” Mulvaney went on to say during his appearance on CNN.
Newsweek has also gone on to say in a report that the FBI’s raid on the Mar-a-Lago estate was timed on purpose to occur when Trump would not be present at the property.
Yeah, that’s not a good look, Mr. FBI Guy.
