We have been told forever that women make less money than men. Never has that been the case in any industry I have worked in, or for that matter in any industry any female acquaintances I have known have worked in.
Fact is, salaries are averaged over the entire spectrum, thus skewing the numbers for regular people. Naturally a WNBA player isn’t going to make as much as an NBA player, and Serena Williams isn’t going to make as much as Roger Federer. Even Megan Rapinoe, the greatest soccer player and athlete to ever live (sarcasm), isn’t going to make as much as her male counterparts.
Salaries in entertainment and sports are based on how much revenue the actor/actress, or athlete brings in. That seems fair to me, as more people are showing up for the new Tom Cruise movie or to watch Lebron (not me), than to see a WNBA game or newest chick flick.
So, we are left to believe that women are treated unfairly and constantly getting undervalued, even in the real world. Recently the costar of the Jurassic World series, Bryce Dallas Howard had a few things to say about her payday. Let’s check Outkick for the details:
“Jurassic World” star Bryce Dallas Howard wants people to know she made much less money than Chris Pratt for the film franchise.
The last “Jurassic World” film with Pratt and Howard came out a few weeks ago, and it was the third time the two teamed up for the dinosaur movies.
However, she didn’t make the same cut as Pratt, and it apparently wasn’t close.
I would love to do a social experiment. I’d be interested to know, if I polled 100 people, who would know who Bryce Dallas Howard is. I would guess baseball player. Maybe soccer star.
If you mentioned Chris Pratt, you’d likely hear the Jurassic series mentioned, among other things. See where I am going with this? It’s not to suggest Howard is replaceable, but the franchise is built around star Chris Pratt. That’s not sexist, that’s just the way it is.
No disrespect to Howard, but Pratt has more box office draw.
“The reports were so interesting because I was paid so much less than the reports even said, so much less. When I started negotiating for ‘Jurassic,’ it was 2014, and it was a different world, and I was at a great disadvantage. And, unfortunately, you have to sign up for three movies and so your deals are set,” she told Insider when talking about reports she made $8 million for the first movie while Pratt made $10 million.
It’s hard to feel sympathy for anyone making 8 million dollars for a movie. Maybe it’s hard work, trying to look scared in from of a green screen and memorizing all of those lines, but let’s have some perspective please.
However, the actress, who is the daughter of Ron Howard, did make it clear Pratt has helped her push for money in future negotiations.
“What I will say is that Chris and I have discussed it, and whenever there was an opportunity to move the needle on stuff that hadn’t been already negotiated, like a game or a ride, he literally told me, ‘You guys don’t even have to do anything. I’m gonna do all the negotiating. We’re gonna be paid the same and you don’t have to think about this, Bryce.’
So Chris Pratt proves once again that he is one of the best people in the business. A Christian, a conservative, and seemingly Un cancellable, Pratt is going to bat for his costars to ensure they get paid as well.
Chris Pratt is a Hollywood heavyweight, and one of the only reasons to tune in these days. His most recent work, the Terminal List is setting streaming on fire, while having patriotic themes devoid of any leftist narratives.
Kudos to Pratt for going to bat for Bryce Dallas Howard and making sure she gets her share.
