A teenager from the state of Texas is now being charged in a federal anti-terrorism investigation after having allegedly made a series of posts on the Internet that detailed his plan to assault those who would be attending the recent Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in the state of Florida.
According to a report from Just the News, federal anti-terrorism agents have alleged that Alejandro Richard Velasquez Gomez — dang that’s a mouthful — who is only 19, made a credible terrorist threat against participants in the event that was held last month in Tampa, Florida.
The FBI’s investigation started when the bureau was made aware of a post from the Instagram account of Gomez, which said, “July 22 is the day of retribution, the day I will have revenge against all of humanity which all of you will pay for my suffering.”
Yeah, because whatever heinous stuff the kid went through in his life is the fault of conservatives everywhere, thus innocent people who had nothing to do with his situation should pay the price for what he endured.
This kind of thinking is proof that there is most definitely some kind of mental health crisis going on with young men and women in our country, particularly the young men. Look at the vast majority of mass shooters. Mostly all of them are young males.
A lot of people smarter than me have attempted to decode this phenomenon, but a lot of it boils down to not having a father, or to an abusive father who does not instruct their male children in the ways of being a man.
Here’s more from the report:
Gomez is charged with making threatening interstate communications and possession of child pornography – the latter count related to images found on his phone, the news outlet also reports.
In a criminal complaint affidavit, the FBI linked Velasquez to the extremist “incel” movement, short for “involuntarily celibate,” online groups of mostly men who believe they can’t enter into sexual relationships.
According to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force in San Antonio, Velasquez’s social media posts sounded similar to those of Elliot Rodger, an incel follower who killed six people and injured more than a dozen in California in 2014.
The FBI also said Velasquez said he intended the post to evoke Rodger.
Velasquez then bought a plane ticket for a flight that would take him from Austin to Tampa on July 22. However, he canceled it the night before. He was then taken into custody on July 22 by San Antonio law enforcement officers. The FBI obtained a search warrant for the young man’s phone.
There are truly some troubled individuals in the world. The folks who were attending this event had no idea how much danger they were in due to this person’s twisted way of thinking.
At least the plot was thwarted and no one died as a result of this hateful, angry teenage boy. Let’s hope that he’s found guilty of his crime and then receives the help he desperately needs to acclimate to society.
