California Democrat Rep. Katie Porter has criticized cops for arresting a man who violently assaulted Trump supporters at a rally she hosted in 2021.
Porter slammed the local police department for the arrest of the man, branding cops a “disgrace” in a text message to Mayor Farrah Khan leaked by Fox.
During a public meeting in an Irvine town hall in July 2021, Julian Willis, 51, allegedly physically assaulted a Trump supporter who had turned up with a small group to heckle Porter as she delivered a speech. According to police reports, Willis gave the MAGA fan a bloodied nose.
After his arrest, it emerged that Willis was in fact living at the same address as Porter, who has described herself during her pollical campaigns as a single mother. Porter divorced the father of her three children after claiming that he had physically and mentally abused her and the kids.
It is not known if the pair are in a relationship, but the arrest of Willis for the assault rattled Porter who sent a series of scathing texts to Irvine’s mayor. In the messages, she ranted that she would “never trust them again” and moaned that Khan’s “police force is a disgrace”.
Quite disgracefully, a spokesperson for Porter issued a statement which seemed to suggest that her venom about the arrest of a man for physically assaulting another because of his political views stems from her “upset that a planned family-friendly town hall was hijacked by extremists, who made constituents feel unsafe, including using hateful slurs in front of children.”
“Since then, Rep. Porter and our office have worked productively with the Irvine Police Department, including the Congresswoman hosting the new police chief in her office for a constructive and cooperative meeting,” added Jordan Wong.
Even more unbelievably, just after the alleged assault against a peaceful protester, Porter’s office seemingly excused the violent assault again, blaming the hecklers for arranging a “confrontation rally”, which is claimed created “unsafe conditions at a planned, family friendly event”.
Of course, heckling, counter-protests and heated debates are all part and parcel of being in politics, but often the radical left cannot seem to differentiate between physical violence and simply voicing a peaceful view that others might disagree with. According to The Los Angeles Times, the Trump group chanted “carpetbagger Katie” and “corrupt Katie Porter” during the event, which apparently warranted the use of violence in front of children and families.
The statement continued:
“While I absolutely respect their right to disagree, their disturbance disrespected all the families who attended and were ready to engage in a thoughtful, civil and safe way.
“My team and I are evaluating next steps, but my promise to Orange County families is that I will continue to hold town halls and to be in conversation with them.”
Porter has faced a backlash of criticism since her election as congresswoman in 2018 as she snapped up her luxurious 4-bedroom $523,000 home for a fraction of the market value through a program run by the law school she used to teach at designed to entice students to move to the area.
Despite the Democrat, who is said to be worth around $2m, now no longer actively teaching at the school, she has remained living in the home.
