The first known transgender to come out in the United States Army and another person have been busted in at least an eight-count federal indictment according to reports. This involves an Army doctor and her wife who are accused in a plot to give Russia medical information connected to members of the United States military and government, according to court records.

The couple is 39-year-old Maj. Jamie Lee Henry, and 36-year-old Johns Hopkins Hospital anaesthesiologist Anna Gabrielian. They were busted when they, allegedly, told an undercover FBI agent who was pretending to be a Russian asset.
Once it was known, they were named in an eight-count federal indictment with the documents being unsealed in a U.S. District Court located in Baltimore. Both of them were charged with conspiracy and ‘wrongful disclosure of individually identifiable health information.’
An indictment filed Wednesday charges two Maryland doctors with conspiracy and unlawful disclosure of medical information.

Who are the suspects? CNBC reported the following on Henry: “Henry was a staff internist who held secret-level security clearance at North Carolina’s Fort Bragg, the largest military post in the U.S. The fort is the home of the Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps, the headquarters of the Army’s Special Operations Command, and the Womack Army Medical Center. Henry in 2015 was reported to be the first known active-duty Army officer to come out as transgender. While she identifies herself as a woman, the indictment repeatedly refers to Henry by male pronouns.”
MSNBC reported in 2015: “Major Jamie Lee Henry is the first recipient of the Dr. Mary Walker Award from Whitman-Walker Health. Major Henry is an Army doctor and the first active duty Army officer to come out as transgender. Major Henry shares her story.”
What about the other person? CNBC’s report continued: “Gabrielian speaks both English and Russian, according to the web page of Johns Hopkins, which is located in Baltimore. The indictment said the couple, who live in Rockville, Maryland, believed they would be giving medical information related to patients at Fort Bragg and Johns Hopkins to a person working at the Russian embassy in Washington.”
The couple faces numerous years in prison if found guilty. If sentenced to prison, it remains unclear if Henry will serve time in a male or female jail.
