It’s tough out there! The economy is in the tank, people don’t want to go back to work following covid, and we have barely filled the jobs lost by the disastrous decision to shut down the country. Yep, the last two years have been a blast! Many people are delaying retirement because of the beating their 401k’s have been taking. In short if you have a good, steady job you had better keep it.
Unfortunately, many companies are feeling the strain, and are scaling back. Closing locations and restructuring are just a couple of ways a company can maintain profitability. Sadly, laying off employees is another. Being laid off was a recurrent theme in the 70’s and early 80’s as Democrat policies created stagflation that devoured all of the one decade and the first couple years of the other. Thank goodness for Ronald Reagan and conservative politics. Who knows where we would be? One tech company however is finding the need to scale back and restructure, leading to an announcement from the CEO that 800 jobs are going to be lost. Sad in itself, but how they are determining who gets laid off is shocking. Check this out from the Blaze:
On Wednesday, Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson issued a company-wide email announcing the reduction of staff by 11%. Lawson assured employees that the company would make firing decisions through an “Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression lens.”
The white CEO of the tech firm Twilio just conducted layoffs “through an Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression lens.” Critical race theory is eating through your HR department and deliberately penalizing whites, Asians, and men.https://t.co/XqkVhTRoyz pic.twitter.com/6vGycGHRox

That basically means if you are a white guy, you may be on the chopping block. Is that fair? What happened to seniority, job performance, and other key indicators of productivity? Is the only requirement more melanin than the guy in the cubicle next to you? It would seem so.
“As you all know, we are committed to becoming an Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression company. Layoffs like this can have a more pronounced impact on marginalized communities, so we were particularly focused on ensuring our layoffs – while a business necessity today – were carried out through an Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression lens,” the email read.
Bye bye, Chad! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Skyler! How is this type of blatant, overt racism ok and who does Jeff Lawson think he is fooling? Why wouldn’t a company lay off based on performance factors or job performance? To simply retain employees because they are black is as bad as not hiring them because they are. It’s disrespectful to the black community to know the only reason you didn’t get laid off is your skin color.
The CEO addressed how Twilio has determined which staff to let go and stated the company implemented “a rigorous selection process to examine which roles were most tightly aligned to our four priorities.”
“White privilege” is being fired ahead of everybody else solely because of your skin color.https://t.co/YGl7iG5rZv

If the companies’ priorities are optics, diversity, and virtue signaling, then I guess Twilio checks all of the boxes with their termination practices. Let’s be real; corporate America has been passing over white people for people of color for some time. That’s not an opinion, that’s fact. At least previous to this, the blatant racism wasn’t on full display. Go woke, go broke, and here’s hoping Twilio does the latter.
