Liberal mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot has attacked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott faith and accused him of “manufacturing a human crisis” after busloads of illegal migrants arrived in her city.
Lightfoot, 60, slammed the Republican governor after 75 more migrants arrived in Chicago from the US-Mexico border over the weekend. Last week, she was forced to accept 60 others, bringing the total up to around 200 in the past two weeks.
While Lightfoot always claimed that Chicago, which is around 1,600 miles away from the Mexican border, would always be a “sanctuary city” for migrants, like many liberal leaders she seems to have quickly changed her tune as the burden busses up to her doorstep.
Border states have been forced to deal with hundreds of thousands of migrants swarming into them for year on year. In July alone, Border Patrol reported 162,792 encounters with illegal migrants, yet after just a few hundred arrived in her “sanctuary city” over the past two weeks, Lightfoot accused Abbott of “racism” and sporting an “un-American” attitude during a press briefing last weekend.
Over the course of her bitterly angry rant, the Democrat mayor also accused Abbott of “manufacturing a human crisis” and questioned his Christian faith:
“He professes to be a Christian,” she raged.
“This is not the Christianity and the teachings of the Bible that I know. And I think religious leaders all across the country are standing up and denouncing exactly this.”
Lightfoot, who suddenly scrambled to remove $59 million from Chicago’s policy budget last year, despite the city’s surging crime rates said she thought Abbott was using the migrant crisis as a political pawn:
“I think it’s decidedly unpatriotic and un-American. I understand the pressures that the people of Texas and some of the other border states are under,” she told the press on Sunday.
“We see that on a daily basis. This is creating a human crisis. And treating people without dignity, without respect, it’s not who we are as Americans.”
Despite declaring that Chicago would be a “sanctuary city” less than a month ago, Lightfoot said that sending the migrants to her city was “inhumane”:
“There could be a level of coordination and cooperation, but he chooses to do none of those things. Instead, he chooses to send human beings across the country to an uncertain destination,’ Lightfoot asserted, ‘That’s unacceptable.
“He is manufacturing a human crisis, and it makes no sense to me,” she added.

Her remarks go to show just how hypocritical and out of touch with reality so many radical left-wing leaders are. While they are romanticized by the idea of accepting and welcoming an unlimited number of people into the US, they seem oblivious to the practicalities involved and the unsustainable logistics of taking in millions of needy people year on year.
According to Fox, Lightfoot has quickly ushered the migrants out of the city of Chicago into the suburban town of Burr Ridge, DuPage County. The town’s Republican mayor, Garry Grasso said that rather than pass migrants from place to place, he would “secure the border” and “defund sanctuary cities”.
Many other liberal leaders have also taken offense at having their claim to represent a ‘sanctuary city’ pulled from the realms of hypothetical idealism into reality.
New York’s Dem. mayor, Eric Adams said that having to accept busloads of migrants was “horrific”:
“This is horrific when you think about what the governor is doing, the governor of Texas, after months of traveling across the border, placing them on the bus with no direction,” moaned Adams.
But Abbott has defended the sharing of the burden his state has been forced to endure for years:
“In the fight against fentanyl, DPS has seized over 325.9 million lethal doses throughout the state. Texas has also transported over 6,500 migrants to the nation’s capital — and now New York City — since beginning the busing mission in April to provide much-needed relief to our overwhelmed border communities.”
