I love Sundays in the fall. Even though I hate the winter, the first signs of some cooler temps are a welcome relief from the dog days of August. It also means football, particularly NFL football. Being a fan of historically underachieving franchises, I have learned somewhat to keep my frustration and temper under check on Sundays. After all it is the Lord’s Day, and it’s just a game. Nah, just kidding! I get all the way turnt up over poor play and a loss. It all gets compounded when my fantasy football teams underperform, as it seems they usually do.
Most weeks, I can just sit back after the game, have another beer and start to deescalate. Except last night. As I am flipping channels, I see the 60 Minutes ad featuring an interview with Joe Biden. Oh joy. I watched, because I am a sadist and I like to laugh, and saw Joe Biden hilariously attempt to defend his administrations job handling inflation. Certainly didn’t help my mood the rest of the evening. Check this out from Breitbart:
President Joe Biden tried to downplay skyrocketing inflation on Sunday, insisting it was only up “just an inch” in the short term.
Biden spoke about inflation during an interview with 60 Minutes aired Sunday, as reporter Scott Pelley reminded him that the annual inflation rate came in at 8.3 percent in August.
“I’m telling the American people that we’re going to get control of inflation,” President Joe Biden tells Scott Pelley. Mr. Biden says his plan to avoid a recession is to “continue to grow the economy.” https://t.co/7SixTE3OMT pic.twitter.com/iwUl3NW4kE

So “just an inch” is justification to throw a big shindig last week to celebrate, featuring James Taylor? What if it had been two inches, would they have hired Paul Simon? Yes, that’s a short joke.
For his part, 60 Minutes Scott Pelley questioned Biden on inflation, with Biden appearing to almost get upset. To be clear, the entire tone and purpose of this interview was to deescalate Biden’s public perception after the Dark Brandon speech from a couple weeks earlier where he called all Trump supporters “extremist”.
“Well, first of all, let’s put this in perspective. Inflation rate month to month was just– just an inch, hardly at all,” Biden replied.
“You’re not arguing that 8.3% is good news,” Pelley replied.
“No, I’m not saying it is good news,” Biden responded. “But it was 8.2% or — 8.2% before. I mean, it’s not — you’re ac — we act — make it sound like all of a sudden, ‘My god, it went to 8.2%.’”
Biden is literally taking credit for inflation NOT going up more than it did. That’s like having a senior citizen that isn’t supposed to be driving steal your car, wreck it, and then brag because the radio still works. Biden wrecked the car! It’s his responsibility to fix it, but all he can do is fiddle with the AM radio.
When Pelley reminded him that it was the highest inflation rate in 40 years, Biden replied, “I got that. But guess what we are. We’re in a position where, for the last several months, it hasn’t spiked. It has just barely — it’s been basically even.”
Does Joe Biden REALLY get that? Or is Joe Biden the same fiscally irresponsible Democrat living off the public dime that he was 40 years ago, when he didn’t personally have to worry about grocery prices, heat costs and gas?
Three cheers for Grumpy Joe. He has managed to maintain the level of crap he has created since he got in office. Nice work! I’m sure Joe had some comforting predictions for the few Americans left that actually watch 60 Minutes. Perhaps he painted a little rosier picture for inflation going forward now that they have passed the Inflation Reduction Act.
“And you would tell the American people that inflation is going to continue to decline?” Pelley asked.
“No,” Biden replied. “I’m telling the American people that we’re gonna get control of inflation.”
Oh, never mind. I guess the American people are just left to sit in the back seat of a wrecked car this Winter while Joe Biden fiddles with the radio. I hope the heat still works, at least.
