Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is facing a lot of backlash in the wake of suggesting violence will break out if former President Donald Trump is prosecuted for abusing presidential records.
Joe Biden on Tuesday, while not referencing Graham by name, seemed to call him out at a political conference in Pennsylvania, saying, “the idea you turn on a television and see senior senators and congressmen saying if such and such happens, there’ll be blood in the street. Where the hell are we?” (does anyone even go to those conferences anymore when he is speaking?)
Graham’s remarks came when Trump allies made threatening statements more often against law enforcement following the Mar-a-Lago raid and at least one man referring to it went after an FBI field office in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was subsequently killed by police. Following quite a while of the Justice Department and National Archives haggling with Trump’s lawful groups to inspire him to return the reports, the FBI executed a court order on Aug. 8 at Mar-a-Lago. Yet, from that point forward, Graham and numerous different Republicans have contended that Trump is confronting a double standard from how the DOJ treated Hillary Clinton.
In particular, Clinton, Trump’s 2016 Democratic opponent for president, was not charged after probes into her utilization of a confidential email server containing confidential data while she was secretary of state. ‘Experts’ have said it’s improbable that the Justice Department would have sought after such a court order without having solid proof.
However, not everyone is convinced. Graham is sure that there is a double standard going on when it comes to Trump, and I’d agree, but I’d take it one step further and say that it also applies to We The People. “If they try to prosecute President Trump for mishandling classified information after Hilary Clinton set up a server in her basement, there literally will be riots in the street. I worry about our country,” Graham said as he emphasized the threat of violence multiple times.
Utilizing less incendiary language, he said that there would be quite a large number of “upset people” on the off chance that Trump was indicted. “I reject violence. I’m not calling for violence. Violence is not the answer, but I’m just telling you. Most Republicans, including me, believe when it comes to Trump, there is no law. It’s all about getting him. There’s a double standard when it comes to Trump” he said. However, we all know how the media paints people just as they did to Trump when he publicly said he denounces racism, yet they were still calling him racist – Graham better be careful for they might pin the next ‘peaceful protest‘ such as BLM on him, but even that protest was a double standard. Trump posted a video of Graham’s remarks on his Truth Social media platform but didn’t leave a comment.
Despite developing proof against the previous president, Trump and partners like Graham have over and over blamed the Justice Department for being one-sided against him. The Justice Department on Friday made public the redacted sworn statement that upheld the inquiry of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago domain. The affirmation frames a long time of cooperation between the National Archives and Records Administration and Trump’s group to get the arrival of records that were inappropriately taken from the White House.
