Race-obsessed Kamala Harris has caused a social media storm after she said the government would prioritize “communities of color” in hurricane Ian relief efforts.
After the Category 4 hurricane’s 155mph winds ripped through Florida, causing widespread devastation and at least 67 deaths, the state is now picking up the pieces of its broken streets, homes and lives. But, in true Democrat fashion, Harris said that federal relief funds would be fast-tracked to those in low-income communities and to people of color because those groups are “most impacted by these extreme conditions”.
“I know we are all thinking about the families in Florida and Puerto Rico with [Hurricane] Fiona and what we need to do to help them in terms of an immediate response and aid,” said the vice president during a talk about climate change in Washington DC.
“We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality, but we also need to fight for equity.”
Her overtly racist and baseless comments sparked outrage from Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis’ rapid response director, Christina Pushaw, who took to Twitter to clarify that all Floridian citizens were being provided with assistance regardless of their demographics:
“This is false. @VP’s rhetoric is causing undue panic and must be clarified. FEMA Individual Assistance is already available to all Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian, regardless of race or background,” Tweeted Pushaw.
She urged those who need help to contact the hurricane relief hotline on 1-800-621-3362, before posting another Tweet urging Harris to retract her harmful comments:
“The @VP needs to correct what she said as well. A real journalist would simply ask her to clarify what she meant by those comments and why she misrepresented the relief effort.”
Later, Pushaw announced that Florida’s Frist Lady, Casey DeSantis had put forward $1 million in aid from Florida’s Disaster Fund to help those affected by the devastating storm, which has been dubbed one of the country’s worst ever hurricanes.
Harris’ promise of racist hurricane relief funding also attracted the attention of Tesla billionaire, Elon Musk. The world’s richest man commented on a Tweet by conservative media personality, Ryan Fournier, who wrote:
“You can’t make this up. Kamala Harris said the administration will be giving hurricane resources “based on equality” by directing funds to “communities of color”. I guess everyone else is just screwed”.
Musk agreed, commenting: “Should be according to greatest need, not race or anything else”.
Huge parts of Florida have been left unrecognizable after Ian ripped its away across the Sunshine State. 67 people lost their lives, over a million were left without power and countless homes and business were flooded by the storm surge.
“We’re flying and we’re operating in areas that are unrecognizable,” he said. “There’s no street signs. They don’t look like they used to look like. Buildings that were once benchmarks in the community are no longer there,” said US Coast Guard, Brendan McPherson.
According to FEMA’s website, Biden has approved the organization to go ahead and “provide emergency protective measures including direct federal assistance at 75% federal funding”.
