Texas Republican Congressman Pat Fallon has filed articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, according to a new report published by Fox News. This guy definitely deserves to be booted from his position, especially considering the fact that immigration issues fall under his purview and he has done nothing at all to alleviate the crisis that is destroying border states and driving up crime rates.
According to the Daily Wire, Fallon introduced the articles of impeachment against the secretary on Monday, for “high crimes and misdemeanors,” which is also known as House Resolution 8.
“Since day one, Secretary Mayorkas’ policies have undermined law enforcement activities at our southern border,” Fallon commented in a statement provided to Fox News last week. “From perjuring himself before Congress about maintaining operational control of the border to the infamous ‘whip-gate’ slander against our border patrol agents, Secretary Mayorkas has proven time and time again that he is unfit to lead the Department of Homeland Security.”
“His willful actions have eroded our immigration system, undermined border patrol morale, and jeopardized American national security. He has violated the law and it is time for him to go,” Fallon continued.
The filing of the articles comes during the first week of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican, occupying the office of Speaker of the House.
McCarthy stated that if the GOP took control of the House away from Democrats, Mayorkas might end up facing impeachment due to his failure to resolve the border crisis, which has seen hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants crossing into the U.S. on a daily basis.
“If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action and every failure and will determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy said to Fox News in November.
The Daily Wire reported, “The U.S. Border Patrol reported encounters with migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border in the 2021 fiscal year were more than quadruple the number of the prior fiscal year and the highest annual total on record, according to Pew Research.”
“The U.S. saw 2,378,944 encounters at the border in fiscal year 2022, excluding the nearly 600,000 known ‘gotaways’ who escaped custody altogether,” the article stated. “Fox News reported last week that Fallon’s articles of impeachment against Mayorkas would come in three sections.”
The first article of impeachment levels accusations that Mayorkas has failed to execute the “Secure the Fence Act of 2006,” stating that the law requires the secretary of DHS to “maintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States.”
The second accuses Mayorkas of being in “violation of his constitutional oath, willfully provided perjurious, false, and misleading testimony to Congress” for testifying that the southern border was secure when he appeared in hearings held on April 26 and November 15 of last year.
The last article that was filed by Fallon says the secretary “publicly and falsely slandered” border agents who were accused of whipping Haitian immigrants in Del Rio, Texas back in 2021. The accusations were eventually cleared.
“The 511-page report by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Personal Responsibility found ‘no evidence that [Border Patrol agents] involved in this incident struck, intentionally or otherwise, any migrant with their reins,’” Fallon went on to write, according to Fox News. “Secretary Mayorkas slandered his own Border Patrol agents and TXDPS Troopers involved in this incident, contributing to a further decrease in already-low morale among agents.”
The files have officially been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. Fallon promised to deliver the articles of impeachment he drafted before the 118th Congress was sworn in.
Mayorkas conducted an interview on ABC’s “This Week” news program Sunday where he said he would not be stepping down from his post over his handling of the border situation, going on to add that he would be prepared to undergo an investigation carried out by House Republicans.
“I do not,” Mayorkas replied when he was pressed by news anchor George Stephanopoulos to issue a response to McCarthy’s call for him to resign or if he had any plans to step down. “I’ve got a lot of work to do, and we’re going to do it.”
No thanks, I think the nothing you’ve done thus far has been more than enough. Please step down, walk out of your office, and don’t let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya.
