Former and possible future President Donald J. Trump is set to have his YouTube page restored in the run up to the 2024 Presidential election. The former President had recently been reinstated to Twitter, and Facebook as well.
While the change of course by Twitter was primarily due to Elon Musk purchasing the leftist cesspool and reinstating free speech, the Facebook and YouTube about-face are a bit more surprising. However, it does indicate a willingness to allow Trump and his message to be shared pre-election, and his fan base is massive, so it’s likely a click driven move as well.
After all, at the end of the day these platforms need to make money, and Donald Trump draws eyeballs. Just look at how CNN has circled the toilet bowl since Biden has taken office. Check this out from Outkick:
Donald Trump will be able to use his YouTube page for the upcoming presidential campaign.
This change comes after years of being banned due to obsessive groupthink on the part of social media companies.
After the events of January 6th, Trump was banned from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, based on, well, not much.
In fact, subsequent releases of inside information showed that Twitter executives essentially created rules on the fly to justify banning the sitting president.
Cllearly, these moves were all made primarily to restrict Trump and his message prior to and around the 2020 election in order to get Joe Biden elected.
It worked, but now with sagging profits and waning relevancy, adding the former President back to the mix makes too much sense from a business perspective to ignore.
He remained banned on Twitter until Elon Musk purchased the platform and reinstated the account. Trump has not posted there since, preferring to remain on Truth Social.
According to a statement, the channel is able to “upload new content” starting Friday.
“Starting today, The Donald J. Trump channel is no longer restricted and the ability to upload new content is restored,” Leslie Miller, YouTube’s vice president of public policy, said. “We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, balancing that with the importance of preserving the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run up to an election. This channel will continue to be subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube.”
Of course, the wish would be for Trump to politely decline YouTube and continue to watch the platform fade into oblivion, but it is far more important to win an election and save the country than it is to be petty.
YouTube will never admit they were wrong to ban Trump in the first place. YouTube, Twitter, and FaceBook never had any solid reasons for restricting a sitting President outside of the desire to see their preferred candidate win. Now, more than two years into the disastrous presidency of Joe Biden, YouTube wants the cash cow that is Donald Trump back on the platform.
A major win for free speech? Yes, but more importantly just further evidence that YouTube should have never banned President Trump in the first place.
