Left-wing Chicago Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson delivered a statement on Sunday after a group of violent teenagers went on a rampage through the downtown area Saturday night, imploring residents not to “demonize” the youth who participated in the destruction. Because as we all know, the radical left is far more partial to the criminals than they are the victims of these sort of crimes.

According to a report from the Daily Wire, over 100 teenagers took part in the violent activity, which included acts of vandalism such as torching cars, engaging in a massive fight, and attempting to breach police barricades. Two teen boys, one 16, the other 17, were shot during the incident. A total of 15 people were arrested.

However, Johnson, the mayor-elect, decided to lecture those who were critical of the teenagers, looking down his nose in a statement in which he said that he did not “condone the destructive activity we saw in the Loop and the lakefront this weekend,” before going on to imply that the behavior of the teens was not totally their fault, saying, “However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities.”

This line of thinking is providing excuses for kids to act like a bunch of wild animals, rather than encouraging them to take responsibility for their own actions and owning up to what they’ve done. Also, with our society firmly in the technological age, there’s no longer any such thing as a lack of opportunity. You have to be willing to go out and take what’s around you and either make an opportunity of your own or take advantage of the programs that are available to help you make a brighter future for yourself. There’s plenty out there for those willing to look.

Instead, kids today want it all handed to them on a silver platter. They don’t want to go out and work for it. No, it should be brought to them so they can expend the minimum effort possible. That’s not how it works, kids.

“Our city must work together to create spaces for youth to gather safely and responsibly, under adult guidance and supervision, to ensure that every part of our city remains both welcome for both residents and visitors,” he went on to say, stating it was part of his “comprehensive approach to improve public safety and make Chicago livable for everyone.”

Here’s a video of the carnage:

A total of nine adults and six children were arrested during the mayhem.

Johnson was rightly slammed for his ridiculous statement by many individuals who took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the whole matter.

“You couldn’t even make it through the first paragraph without excusing the rioters,” one user proclaimed.

“They will get more of the unrest and looting since they are not being held responsible. It is the society’s fault, so individuals can do as pleased. Shame on the insanely Woke admin,” another chimed in.

“Your soft hand position will lead to more crime and more death. You will bankrupt Chicago. Step aside. Citizens deserve to live in a safe city,” another stated.

The report then went on to provide some background information about Johnson:

Johnson, who served as Cook County Commissioner when he ran for mayor against Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas, said on his campaign website that he would “work with police and first responders to invest in community-based interventions that de-escalate conflict, reduce violence and make our neighborhoods safer.” Vallas promised on his website that he would increase the number of sworn officers and considered public safety a “basic human right.”

It’s time to stop making excuses and justifications for rioters and violent criminals.
