Republican New York Rep. George Santos has been charged with seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making false statements to Congress, according to a report from CNN.
Santos was picked up in Melville on Long Island, where he was then transported to a courthouse in Central Islip.
For some time, the House Ethics Committee has been looking into Santos and alleged campaign finance wrongdoings. Santos has also been under the microscope for the litany of lies that he told in his run-up to the election. The cows have finally come home, and Santos is now in custody, looking at a slew of charges.
Check this out via the Daily Caller:
Santos has also been under fire for consistently lying about his life, falsely claiming he attended Baruch College and New York University. He also falsely claimed he worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup and lied about having family members who survived the Holocaust.
Santos has also denied allegations that he stole $3,000 from a veteran’s charity fund for his ill dog.

Santos is still a member of Congress, despite being called on to resign by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, among others. While Santos has subsequently admitted many of his lies, he has still refused to relent the seat he won in a stunning upset in New York’s third district.
Santos is also facing a harassment charge. from a former volunteer:
Derek Myers, who described himself as a volunteer in Santos’ office, accused the congressman of sexual harassment in late January. He alleged in a complaint that Santos asked if he was active on the gay dating app Grindr, and touched his groin. Santos has denied those claims.
Santos’ office said in a statement that he “is fully cooperating” with the investigation, and would not be commenting further on the matter.
Regarding the lies and fairy tales, it is unreal that he was never discovered BEFORE winning his seat in Congress, which speaks to a larger problem, especially in far-left states like New York.
While it isn’t uncommon for someone to “fluff up’ a resume,’ claiming Jewish heritage and being descended from Holocaust survivors is especially disturbing. Santos famously attempted to clarify by saying he was “Jew-ish.’ The mental gymnastics are mind-numbing, and the fact he hasn’t been removed or stepped down already is also disturbing.
Americans are already mistrustful enough of their public institutions without having alleged liars and criminals like George Santos in elected positions. How are we expected to have faith in our elected leaders or the system’s integrity if they aren’t vetted well enough to keep out someone as shady as George Santos? Perhaps we can chalk it up to the state of affairs in New York, or perhaps Santos is just that skilled of a liar. Either way, it undermines our democracy and is just another black eye on the world stage.
