Podcast host and former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly sat down to interview Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, currently running for the GOP presidential nomination, where she asked the rising star in the conservative movement if he would pardon former President Donald Trump if he were to be elected the next commander-in-chief. At the present moment, DeSantis is in second place, fairly far behind Trump.
According to The Daily Caller, “The former president is entangled in legal battles as he awaits a third indictment relating to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Trump faces two other indictments involving his former attorney allegedly paying hush money to former porn actress Stormy Daniels and for his alleged mishandling of classified documents in his Mar-a-Lago home.”
“Given your views on the weaponization of government, would you commit to pardoning [Trump] on any federal charges against him?” Kelly asked the governor during the interview.
“Well, what I’ve said is very simple: I’m gonna do what’s right for the country,” DeSantis replied. “I don’t think it would be good for the country to have an almost-80-year-old former president go to prison.”
“So that’s a yes,” Kelly followed up.
“It just doesn’t seem like it would be a very good thing,” DeSantis added. “And I look at Ford, who pardoned Nixon, and took some heat for it, but at the end of the day it’s like, do we want to move forward as a country, or do we want to be mired in these past controversies? And I think the public wants a fresh start, I think they want somebody that’s going to focus on their issues. We’ve had a lot that’s happened over the last five or six years. I get that, but going forward, we got all these issues that we’ve gotta deal with.”
The Florida Republican promised during the interview that he would “wield the pardon power” for regular Americans that he believed were being unfairly targeted by raging leftists and to hold the corrupt politicians in D.C. accountable for their actions. He then accused the Biden administration of “weaponizing” the DOJ and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in order to silence their political opposition.
During the middle part of July, Trump received a letter from Special Counsel Jack Smith that informed him of an investigation that had been launched into the alleged role he played in the Capitol riot. Which, by the way, if you look at the things the former president actually said that day, it’s pretty much the opposite of encouraging an insurrection. But since when have liberals ever cared about facts when they can lie and make up narratives that will help them achieve their endgame?
The three statutes that were cited in the target letter include “conspiracy to commit offense or to defraud the United States, deprivation of rights under a civil rights statute, and tampering with a witness, victim or an informant,” a report from ABC News said.
Trump is also currently facing a third indictment in another investigation into his alleged attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state of Georgia. These people won’t stop their assault against Trump until he is removed from the 2024 playing field. Even then, they will probably continue to attack him to try and shred his influence in the GOP.
“DeSantis has publicly opposed Trump’s indictments, accusing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office and the federal government of politically targeting the former president. He announced Florida would not be involved in the extradition process of Trump during the latter’s first indictment by Bragg’s office,” the report concluded.
