Well, it took the creative geniuses working behind-the-scenes at the White House almost two weeks to spin a fanciful excuse for President Joe Biden’s now infamous “no comment” bumble concerning the Maui wildfires, but they finally did it. I hear studios in Hollywood are looking for writers thanks to the current ongoing strike, maybe they should hire the folks who came up with this nonsense?
Biden was universally panned after the media asked him while he was on the beach for vacation about the wildfires raging in Maui, to which he responded “no comment.” It didn’t end there, unfortunately. He also refused to speak about the death toll from the tragic incident. None of this is a good look for a president who should have been acting like a leader and providing words of encouragement and comfort to those suffering devastating losses from the fires.
The comment in question was made on Aug. 13.
Olivia Dalton, the White House deputy press secretary, spoke with the New York Times, where she made up the excuse that Biden simply didn’t hear the question and wasn’t talking about Maui. Well, if he didn’t hear the question, why didn’t he say that? Why respond with “no comment?” Foolishness. Does Dalton really expect the American public to buy that garbage?
“He didn’t hear the question,” Dalton said during a conversation with the outlet. “He absolutely didn’t say ‘no comment’ in relation to Maui. And in fact, he had already spoken to the nation about Maui at that point, in addition to being in daily contact with senior staff, FEMA and state officials as he marshaled a whole-of-government response to the fires.”
If this is true, why did it take two weeks to say this? Wouldn’t you put out the fire in the press by giving that explanation right away? It might have been believable at that point.
Here’s more from the Daily Caller:
Biden’s opponents seized on the “no comment” remark to criticize his apparent lack of empathy, with former President Donald Trump releasing a video one day after Biden’s remarks.
“To say ‘no comment’ is oftentimes fine, but to be smiling when you say it, especially against such a tragedy as this, is absolutely horrible and unacceptable,” Trump responded.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis mentioned Biden’s “no comment” during the first GOP presidential primary debate Wednesday.
“Biden was on the beach while those people were suffering,” DeSantis commented during the event. “He was asked about it, and he said, ‘No comment.’ Are you kidding me? As somebody that’s handled disasters in Florida, you’ve got to be activated. You’ve got to be there. You’ve got to be present. You’ve got to be helping people who are doing this.”
There’s no excuse for President Biden’s remarks. No justification for allowing so much time to pass without addressing the disaster. How Biden responded to this tragedy speaks volumes about the quality of his leadership. To be frank, he doesn’t possess the skills or personal character to lead a nation. Period.
