A father from the state of North Carolina is now facing charges of second-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing the man he thought was responsible for the death of his son in a car accident. Folks, the pain and grief of losing a child is something you shouldn’t even wish on your worst enemy. As you can already guess, it can consume a person, fill them with hatred and anger, and destroy them inside. I highly doubt this man had it in him to murder someone before the misery and suffering blackened his heart and soul.
Chad Woods, 41, was out driving with members of his family on Monday morning when the vehicle ran out of gas, according to the News & Observer. Three of the family members started to walk along the road, including Woods’ 17-year-old son. A driver was reportedly “unable to avoid” hitting the young man. The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, according to The Daily Wire.
“He was a good person. He was a real good person,” the teen’s brother said in comments made to ABC11. “Wanted to be an IT technician. He was doing, he wanted to be positive in life. He wanted to help people. He was a people person.”
“The Person County Sheriff’s Office and the N.C. State Highway Patrol said the driver was reporting the crash to a 911 operator when what sounded like two gunshots were heard. The line then went quiet. Sheriff Jason Wilborn told the outlet that Woods, the teen’s father, had grabbed a handgun and shot the driver, killing him,” the report continued.
Woods then allegedly threw the weapon into a pond, took the man’s pickup truck, and drove himself home. He left behind the driver and his dead son. The driver has now been identified as Jeffrey Leonard McKay of Youngsville, North Carolina. He was 39-years-old. McKay worked as a maintenance man for the North Carolina Department of Correction.
“This is kind of a first,” Morris told local media outlets. “I’ve been to people struck by cars and I’ve been to shootings, but I haven’t ever had this happen at the same time. Sad situation all around, for all the families.”
Woods’ father, Lawrence Clayborn remarked that his child was distraught over seeing the death of his son.
“He was just out of it, going off and stuff. He was going, ‘He just he killed my son. He killed my son,’” Clayborn explained.
Law enforcement authorities were able to track Woods down at his residence once the minor involved in the incident was identified. Morris then informed the media police were searching for another person who was allegedly at the scene who could be heard in the background during McKay’s 911 call.
“Woods faces a second-degree murder charge and a larceny of a motor vehicle charge for allegedly stealing McKay’s truck, NBC News reported. If convicted, he faces a maximum punishment of life in prison without the possibility of parole,” the report concluded.
Please pray for all the family members involved in this tragedy.
