Those who call the island of Maui home who were attempting to escape from the wildfires decimating their homes and killing their families and friends faced a barricade that blocked the only paved road out of town, according to new reports coming from the Associated Press. This, of course, forced those fleeing to evade the obstacles erected by local authorities. Why in the world were barricades put up and who is responsible for making that decision? This is deplorable.
Several Hawaiian Electric trucks busy replacing telephone poles along Highway 30 told residents who were stuck in gridlock due to their vehicles to turn around and head back to Lahaina. Some of these individuals died in their cars as others tried to swerve around the barricade or travel along dirt roads in order to escape from the fires.
“It made no sense what they were doing,” Cole Millington, a resident of Lahaina, went on to tell the media, according to NBC News. “They could see the sky was black. They could see the city was on fire. They could see the wind was still whipping everything around. But they were already starting to plant new power poles.”
Check out more details from The Daily Caller:
Many residents could not escape the traffic and abandoned their cars to jump in the Pacific, making the gridlock even worse, according to The Washington Post.
According to a report by AP, the only road out of Lahaina was barricaded.

“The gridlock would have left us there when the firestorm came,” Kim Cuevas-Reyes, a resident who was forced to drive into the wrong lane to get away from the blaze, said, according to AP. “I would have had to tell my children to jump into the ocean as well and be boiled alive by the flames or we would have just died from smoke inhalation and roasted in the car.”
Hawaiian Electric did not respond to requests for comment made by the Daily Caller. Not surprising. They are trying to figure a way to spin the narrative so they do not have to take responsibility for the part they played in the deaths of Maui residents.
The wildfires have caused a massive tragedy for the people of Maui. Over 100 souls have passed away, with north of 1,000 others still unaccounted for. Can you imagine the utter misery people are experiencing right now? Families have been torn apart. Homes have been lost. And to top it all off, there’s hardly been any help sent down there by the Biden administration.
Adding insult to injury, President Joe Biden traveled down to the island on Monday, where he compared the devastation from the fires to a small blaze he had once in his kitchen, which was contained in a matter of minutes by local firefighters. How tone-deaf do you have to be to make comments like that and not see how messed up it is?
And this is the man who is currently leading our country? Guys, what more do you need to see in order to turn away from pulling the lever for Joe Biden in the next election?
