House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, a Kentucky Republican, recently told the good folks at Newsmax that there’s plenty of both support and evidence to launch impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden, however, the GOP — and conservatives in general — need to be careful that the whole matter doesn’t backfire for them in the 2024 election. And that’s absolutely a big concern at this point, though Biden doesn’t have the same kind of loyal base that former President Donald Trump enjoys, there are enough progressives out there and people who have yet to make up their minds who they are supporting that a wrong move could lead those who are undecided to cast a ballot for Biden.
“I would predict that we’ll have an impeachment inquiry in September,” the Kentucky Republican said on Newsmax‘s “Wake Up America.” “I think our colleagues in the House realize this is a serious offense, what the Bidens have been doing. They’ve been selling access to our federal government.”
Comer then went on to state that Biden is “more than likely compromised because of the millions of dollars he’s taken from countries like China, Ukraine, and Russia, so I think there’s overwhelming support now within our conference to move forward.”
The Kentucky Republican then stated that many of the more middle-of-the road republicans are worried that this whole thing might blow up in their faces.
“When the Republicans impeached [Bill] Clinton, they lost the majority,” stated Comer. “When the Democrats impeached [Donald] Trump, they lost the majority, so that’s the legitimate concern. … We’re trying to be careful.”
However, Comer then said that Biden, “in my opinion, has committed multiple impeachable offenses, and the fact that his family has committed all these crimes, if he didn’t know, like the media wants to say, then shame on him.”
And with the current mountain of evidence that already exists, you wouldn’t think anything else would be needed to make the case for Biden being impeached and booted from office, yet Comer says even more information will soon come out.
“My job isn’t to impeach,” he explained. “My job is to get the facts to the American people, and it’s like pulling teeth, but I think most people would agree about every two weeks, we disclose more information to the American people.”
The congressman then took an opportunity to talk about whether or not it would be likely to hear testimony from associates of Hunter Biden and from Biden himself, going on to reveal he believes Tony Bobulinski, who is a former business associate of Hunter’s, would appear before the committee at some point in the near future.
“We’re working on a pretty substantive hearing in late September,” Comer went on to say, stating that the committee will attempt to have depositions with folks involved in the Biden-related LLCs.
Comer said he welcomes the idea of Hunter Biden testifying.
“We’ll drop everything and let him clear his good name if he wants, but thus far, the Biden attorneys have done nothing but block, obstruct, and intimidate, so I wouldn’t expect to see Hunter Biden anytime soon, but he has an open invitation,” Comer stated during the interview.
