Liberals everywhere are likely staring at the new data from a new The Economist/YouGov poll, with mouths agape, as it reveals former President Donald Trump is now in a tie with President Joe Biden in what is amounting to a two-man race for the White House. That’s pretty much what we all expected when Trump announced his official candidacy last November, but the fact he’s leaving every other GOP candidate in the dust in the primary race is still amazing. His lead, at this point, is almost insurmountable. Anything can happen of course, but right now, Trump looks likely to be the nominee.
According to Newsmax, Trump is currently trailing the president by a single point, 43 percent to 44 percent, but this figure is within the survey’s margin of error, so this could be a complete and total tie. However, 40 percent of the individuals who participated in the poll said they believe Trump will pull out a victory in a rematch with Biden. Only 37 percent said they think Biden will get a second term.
“It is rare for an incumbent president to show weakness in polling, but a large majority of U.S. adults (63%) do not want Biden to run again, including 69% of independents. Also, Biden is 45 points under water on having the country on the wrong track (67%) versus the right track (22%),” the report stated. “Democrats on a generic congressional ballot fair slightly better than the embattled president, leading Republicans by 2 points (44% to 42%).”
As noted above, Trump is continuing to pound all the other candidates in the GOP primary into the dirt with a solid 39 point lead. That’s massive.
Here’s how things in the primary stand right now:
- Trump, 55%
- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, 16%
- Entrepreneur, Vivek Ramaswamy 6%
- Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, 6%
- Former Vice President Mike Pence, 4%
- Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., 3%
- Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 2%
Believe it or not, there are actually others in the race besides these individuals. Conservative pundit Larry Elder is running, as is North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and several others. Here’s the thing about these candidates. I didn’t even know they were running until Newsmax put out this report. That’s how little fanfare and attention their campaigns are receiving at the moment.
Granted, this has a lot to do with them not having the connections the big dogs have when it comes to donors who will fill up their war chests so they can purchase ads and what have you, but still, with Trump so far ahead, why even bother running? It would be far more productive to just throw your support behind a candidate and help them catch up. If your choice isn’t Trump that is.
Regardless, it’s a good sign that so many people think Trump is going to defeat Biden. Maybe people really are sick and tired of all the garbage policies coming out of the left. I have to think the culture war is playing a huge role this election cycle as well. Let’s hope that whoever the nominee ends up being, they beat Biden and help get this ship back on course.
