Fans were none too happy with singer and actress Selena Gomez after her latest social media post on Instagram concerning the Israel-Hamas war that has now been raging for almost a month after terrorist attacks in the Jewish state killed 1,400 civilians. Many stated that the singer is wasting the massive influence she has as the most followed person on the platform. I mean, why are we transforming Hollywood celebrities into people who absolutely have to come out and make a statement about every single event, big or small, happening around the world? Do we really need to know Gomez’s thoughts about political matters? Can’t we just follow her for entertainment?
The cult of personality built around celebrities in modern culture is insane.
“Fans apparently expected more from Gomez, and many on social media said the star failed to deliver with a post that came too late, and said too little. Gomez is facing extreme backlash after breaking her silence on the terrorist group Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel. The star spoke briefly about how she feels about the war, and addressed the hateful comments she predicted would come her way,” the Daily Caller reported.
Selena Gomez in a statement:
“We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good. I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt. That’s what makes me sick.” pic.twitter.com/L0dIxaGM7z

“I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that’s going on in the world,” Gomez started off her post. Given how toxic social media can be when you have a large following, I’d say it’s more than reasonable to take long stretches of time away from it and try to live as normal a life as possible. Heck, even us non-famous folk should apply that principle from time-to-time.
“People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific,” she went on to say. Right after this, she addressed the many trolls she knew the post would pull out of the dark corners of the Internet.
“We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good. I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt. That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t. Love, Selena,” the post concluded.
430 millions of followers. Yes a post can do a lot selena gomez, you taking a break on social media cause this “affect you” but you’re in a millions dollar house while people are getting killed. you can’t even defend palestine you take a “neutral” stance to save face. https://t.co/NwbW2Yjfxu

And that’s when fans decided to bare their teeth and rip into Gomez, stating she could have used her influence for better use in addressing the conflict in the Middle East. No doubt many of these “fans” will chastise her for not parading down the street with a Palestinian flag and screaming about how Israel are nothing more than colonialists and blah, blah, blah.

“Only Selena Gomez would find a way to make a genocide about herself,” one user said of the post.
“Users also targeted the star for speaking out about donating to Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s attacks on the country, but allegedly failing to show Israelis the same compassion,” the Daily Caller reported.
my friends and i with our few thousands followers have been posting and arguing with zionists for years but miss selena gomez’s post to her 500 millions followers isn’t gonna change anything? https://t.co/TH4AjKCgUh

And there it is, ladies and gentlemen. The raging anti-semitic leftists indeed feel that celebrities should be championing the very same psychopaths that killed innocent men, women, and children. Unbelievable.
Another went on to state, “my friends and i with our few thousands followers have been posting and arguing with zionists for years but miss selena gomez’s post to her 500 millions followers isn’t gonna change anything?”
Sigh.
