A judge in New York rejected the request of former President Donald Trump for a mistrial in the civil fraud case brought against him by Attorney General Letitia James concerning allegations that he and his family lied about property valuations in order to get better loan terms. This, of course, is one of four indictments that have been brought against Trump in what looks like a politically motivated attack designed to ensure he does not become the GOP presidential nominee and take on President Joe Biden in next year’s general election.
Clearly, this is a prime example of lawfare, where the legal system is being hijacked by deep state progressives and used as a weapon to take down the president’s political enemies. This has been used on regular Americans too, particularly pro-life advocates, in the wake of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
According to Newsmax, Justice Arthur Engoron stated that he could not “in good conscience” just allow the former president to pursue his request, which he claims is “utterly without merit.” Again, this court is clearly biased against Trump and is doing their part to persecute him for his political beliefs rather than do their job to ensure he is given a fair trial.
The outlet then sent requests to Trump and the legal team representing him, but as of this writing, they have not responded.
ABC News has more details on the rejection of the request:
Engoron rejected the motion without hearing any arguments from the New York Attorney General, who earlier this week requested that an extended briefing be scheduled.
“I cannot sign a proposed order to show cause that is utterly without merit, and upon which subsequent briefing would therefore be futile,” Engoron wrote in his ruling.
Across a four-page order, Engoron sharply disagreed with the allegations from the defendants that he was engaging in “co-judging” with his law clerk. “As I have made clear over the course of this trial, my rulings are mine, and mine alone. There is absolutely no ‘co-judging’ at play,” Engoron said.
Addressing his principal law clerk’s political donations, which the judge said she has largely made in order to purchase tickets to functions while pursuing elected judicial office, Engoron called out the defendants for failing to acknowledge the “applicable unambiguous ethical guidelines” that permit such donations. He similarly dismissed the idea that his clerk attending events sponsored by political organizations implies that she supports any position taken by those groups.
Again, the bottom line here is the legal system is being used to persecute and prosecute anyone who dares to stand up against the corruption of the left in our current political situation in this country. I’m not sure the average American realizes how bad this is for them. Our most basic, fundamental rights are being eroded away bit by bit and the weapons we once had at out disposal to fight back — the legal system, not actual physical violence — are also being taken away from us. This upcoming election is critical for the future survival of our republic.
