President Joe Biden recently discovered his name in headlines — isn’t it always? — over a recent rant he made about his low polling numbers. Lo and behold, he got even more bad news on Monday as yet another poll came out that showed his approval ratings have hit a new record low. This is probably not the kind of stuff he wants to hear while running for reelection in 2024, is it? Especially when it’s likely his political opponent for the White House will probably be former President Donald Trump.

Monmouth University released the findings of its latest public opinion survey that showed Biden facing his worst-ever job performance review since becoming president: 34% of respondents approve of his performance, and 61% disapprove. Also found in the national survey, which stretched from November 30 to December 4, was how Americans give Biden poor marks in several policy areas — particularly with inflation (68% disapprove) and immigration (69% disapprove).

“The Biden administration keeps touting their infrastructure investments and a host of positive economic indicators. Those data points may be factual, but most Americans are still smarting from higher prices caused by post-pandemic inflation. This seems to be what’s driving public opinion,” Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, said about the poll’s findings. “There is political danger in pushing a message that basically tells people their take on their own situation is wrong.”
The grim findings were disclosed hours after The Washington Post published a report citing insider sources that said Biden and first lady Jill Biden have complained to aides and friends for months about the president’s “dismal” numbers in his approval ratings and polls showing him behind in a potential general election rematch against former President Donald Trump. This reportedly included “stern words” after the National Thanksgiving Turkey Pardonin which Biden pressed aides on what his team and campaign were doing about his poll numbers.
“We do not discuss the President’s private conversations one way or the other,” Andrew Bates, who works as a White House spokesman, commented in a statement given to the outlet. “The President and first lady meet regularly with their senior team for updates and to review plans.”
Voters aren’t just concerned about the disastrous policies in Biden’s platform, they are also concerned that at 81-years-old, he simply isn’t fit to serve as the commander-in-chief. He is currently the oldest person to serve in the Oval Office. If he were to win reelection he would be 86 at the end of a second term. Given how frequently Biden loses his train of thought while speaking publicly, the moments on video where he falls or trips, and the aimless wandering and mumbling, many feel he cannot lead effectively as it is. Just imagine how bad all of these things will be when he’s 86.
The president recently got cranky with a reporter saying, “That’s stupid,” after he was asked just a month ago if he thought he might be too old to run for president. However, Biden also told donors that he isn’t sure if he would be running for a second term if Trump wasn’t in the race. He then said there are probably 50 other individuals within the Democratic Party who could soundly defeat Trump in his place.
