S.E. Cupp, a political commentator for CNN, made the absurd claim on Monday that former President Donald Trump has somehow managed to trick Americans into no longer caring about their own country. This is a very odd claim to make, considering the fact Trump’s entire platform, since the very first day he entered politics, has been about putting the nation first. Is this another case of Trump Derangement Syndrome? It certainly seems like it.
The comments by Cupp were made during a panel that was discussing recent comments Trump made where he stated he would not protect NATO members who do not pay their dues. I mean, it seems kind of like common sense, right? These countries are essentially wanting our protection, but not contributing to the system set up to facilitate it. Are these nations entitled to our protection? What kind of mindset is that?
“No, I would not protect you. In fact I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want. You gotta pay,” Trump went on to say, according to Reuters. Reuters then said Trump was referring to Russia with his “encourage them” comment.
The panel then played a clip of Florida republican Sen. Marco Rubio coming to the former president’s defense over the remarks.
via The Daily Caller:
Cupp first argued Trump doesn’t know what an “ally” is and only cares about personal loyalty to him, before a fellow panelist argued that Rubio’s defense of Trump showed Republicans don’t care about international security interests.
“This is the really amazing trick that Donald Trump has managed to pull off. First he managed to get conservatives to stop caring about conservatism. Then he got Christians to stop caring about scripture, the Bible, what would Jesus do. Now Jesus is woke,” Cupp went on to remark during the discussion. “He got Republicans and Americans to stop caring about America and what democracy should mean. And in this instance, he got the patriotic, military-loving far right to stop caring about national security and to stop caring about our servicemen and women, our troops. I mean, it’s a feat what Donald Trump has done to the right in this country in a very short period of time.”
Approximately 31 NATO member nations fail to meet the defense spending target of at least 2% of gross domestic product while the United States foots the bill, Reuters reported.
What no one is really talking about is the fact that defending NATO allies will not come cheap. It will be very costly, and in case you haven’t noticed, our economy is swirling around at the bottom of the toilet bowl. We’re not doing well financially. We are already giving an obscene amount of cash to Ukraine to support their war with Russia. Money does not grow on trees, nor should it be printed like mad, increasing inflation.
Regardless of those specific comments, Cupp stating that Trump has somehow pulled people away from Jesus seems a bit on the dramatic side. He often speaks without a filter. That’s partly what made him so popular with regular Americans. He’s not polished and fake.
People like Cupp complain when there is a “professional” in office because they think he’s not being authentic. An authentic person comes along and they don’t like him either. Some folks cannot be pleased.
