Democrats have pushed the fraudulent claim for years now that former President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are “bosom buddies” and have partnered together to try and steal the presidential election in 2016 and other such nonsense, but if Putin is to be believed, he’s actually not a fan of Trump’s at all. In fact, he’s come out in full support of Joe Biden in the current presidential race.
However, this is Putin we’re talking about, so again, how can we be sure he’s serious and not just lying through his teeth? I don’t think Trump is a Russian tool by any means, but I do think Putin has a level of respect for the former president that he does not have for Biden.
Check out the latest from The Western Journal:
The Russian strongman made the remarks during an interview with Russian “journalist” Pavel Zarubin, according to Reuters. (And if we’re going to question Putin’s trustworthiness, we need to question Zarubin’s at least as much.)
Putin had not previously commented publicly on the on the 2024 U.S. presidential contest, but apparently he, like much of the U.S. establishment media that leans about as far left as he does, has also decided that November would present U.S. voters which a choice between the 81-year-old incumbentand his 78-year-old predecessor.
Zarubin asked Putin who would be “better for us” — presumably referring to the Russian people, but perhaps referring to the country’s leadership.
“Biden,” Putin said in response. “He is a more experienced, predictable person, a politician of the old school.”
Reuters took pains to point out that Putin answered the question “without hesitation,” indicated he either anticipated being asked for his opinion on the matter or he had been thinking a lot about the possibilities of who he might have to deal with after November.
The same report pointed out the Russian president answered with a slight smile and said, “we will work with any U.S. president who the American people have confidence in.”
It’s not likely Democrats are happy about that answer because they really, really want people to think Trump is just a puppet for Russian interests. The answer even seemingly caught Reuters off guard.
“Based on Trump’s reluctance to criticise Putin in his first term and his more recent comments — including a weekend interview where he said he would encourage Russia to attack NATO members that failed to spend enough on their own defence — his many critics believe he would give the Kremlin leader a much easier ride,” the London-based publication said.
Strangely, Putin also defended Biden’s ability to lead the nation, which is something that has come under increasing attack following the release of special counsel Robert Hur’s report concerning the president mishandling of classified documents following his time as vice president under Barack Obama. The report stated that Biden should not be charged because the jury would see him as a sympathetic old man who has a bad memory. It also provided many examples of just how bad his memory is, including forgetting what years he served as vice president and when his eldest son died.
Then, in the press conference where he responded to the report he mixed up two presidents and forgot where his son received his rosary. Not a good look.
“When I met with Biden in Switzerland — true, that was several years, three years ago — people were already saying he wasn’t up to it,” Putin said during the interview with Zarubin. “I didn’t see anything of the kind.”
Of Trump, the Russian president said he “has been called a non-systemic politician; he has his own view on the topic of how the United States should develop relations with its allies.”
Reuters could not help themselves from noting that “[i]n 2020, a report by the U.S. Senate intelligence committee found Russia had tried to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election in order to help Trump, who defeated [former first lady] Hillary Clinton.”
Sigh.
