Russian President Vladimir Putin recently suggested that he might be open to a possible ceasefire concerning the conflict his nation is having with Ukraine, according to new reports that came out on Tuesday. Reuters, however, said that American officials, who don’t seem to have much of an interest in temporarily halting the aggression between the two nations, have waved off that suggestion. I wonder why they want to continue to see casualties in this war and the suffering that comes with this level of combat? Seems really weird the guy is open to peace and U.S. officials say, “no thanks.”
This stinks to high heaven.

Citing three Russian sources, the wire service reported Putin sought through back channels and intermediaries to stop the fighting, which began in February 2022 when Russia invaded its former Soviet satellite republic neighbor.
“The contacts with the Americans came to nothing,” one Russian source who was said to have had first-hand knowledge about peace talks that began last year and supposedly fell apart in recent weeks.
A second source said American diplomats communicated to Moscow via intermediaries that no peace talks would take place without members of Ukraine’s government at the table.
A third source then came forward and said, “Everything fell apart with the Americans” who wanted to avoid pressuring Ukraine into a deal. The sources also indicated Putin is very interested in deescalating the war for months now. If that’s true, why is no progress being made on that front?
One of the sources stated that the Russian President was not at all surprised to hear of the reaction from American politicians, while another commented the Americans who are involved in the conversation have serious doubts about the sincerity of Putin’s alleged desire for peace. I mean, I can understand some hesitancy on the part of anyone negotiating with someone like Putin. That’s why you need strong leadership who has a gift for smelling when people are being bogus.
“The Americans didn’t believe Putin was genuine about a ceasefire, but he was and is. He is ready to discuss a ceasefire. But equally Putin is also ready to fight on for as long as it takes — and Russia can fight for as long as it takes,” a Russian source said in comments delivered to Reuters.
Meanwhile, an American involved with the reported ceasefire talks denied there had been any “official contact” with Russian leaders about pushing a pause button on the fighting.
The reported peace talks reportedly took place at the end of last year in Turkey, and according to one of Reuters’ sources, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, CIA Director Bill Burns and Secretary of State Antony Blinken were aware of them.
The report goes on to say that Sullivan allegedly refused to talk to any of his Russian counterparts about the situation. When Reuters attempted to reach out to both the White House and the Kremlin for comment, both declined.
Reuters’ sources concluded the war would continue after Kremlin officials concluded any future peace talks with their American counterparts would be pointless.
There is a tangled web here. It seems there are a lot of people who look to gain from this conflict, doesn’t it? There’s more here than meets the eye.
