Strange things seem to be afoot at the highest court in the land — for those of you who failed civics in high school, if you even had civics in high school, I’m referring to the Supreme Court — as Justice Samuel Alito missed a second day of work on the bench last Friday (June 21), while his colleagues handed out several opinions, including one on the Second Amendment. It’s not a good sign that Alito is mysteriously absent from the bench with no reason provided for his absence.
This could all just be a case of his being under the weather, but conservatives are essentially short a voice without his presence in court and that’s never a good thing.
According to PEOPLE:
He has now missed the release of nine court opinions between the two days, and the Supreme Court has not offered an explanation for his unexpected absences.
The final weeks of June are usually the busiest for Supreme Court justices, and this year is no exception — more than a dozen cases remain undecided with only a week left in the term. The court will have to extend its term into July if any opinions are outstanding by the end of the month, putting justices into overdrive to catch up on their caseload.
Alito, who authored the 2022 opinion that overturned Roe v. Wade, is often ranked the most conservative justice on the Supreme Court. At 74 years old, he’s also the second-oldest, behind Clarence Thomas.
Alito has been doing a bang up job of ticking off the liberals lately as a report from The New York Times from May hammered on him for having the gumption, the absolute gall to express his First Amendment rights of both free speech and free expression of religion, by flying flags on his own private, personal property, that were associated with the “Stop the Steal” movement that was used by individuals involved in the incident at the Capitol Building back on Jan. 6, 2021.
Stating it was his wife who wanted to fly the flags, Alito said “no way, Jose,” to recusing himself from two cases to be decided by SCOTUS that are related to Jan. 6 criminal charges.
Prior to joining the Supreme Court in early 2006, Alito was a U.S. attorney and federal appeals court judge. President George W. Bush nominated him to replace Justice Sandra Day O’Connor following her retirement in 2005. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in a 58-42 vote.
What is the deal here? We the people deserve to know what’s going on with Alito. Is he sick? Has there been a health emergency of some sort? Two days of being absent from the bench during the busiest time of the year after taking a bunch of flack from leftists following the flag debacle is a little weird. Are conservatives being targeted by someone in the administration again? Who knows at this point.
All I know is, we need to pray for the man because we desperately need as many conservative voices online as possible.
