Almost immediately following the atrocious performance delivered by President Joe Biden during the first presidential debate on June 27, Democrats — in government and otherwise — began demanding that he step down as the party nominee, citing obvious cognitive decline as the main reason he shouldn’t stay in the race. Hilariously, this is what conservatives have been saying ever since Biden took office in 2021, but we were just being “meanies” back then, right?
It was beginning to look like the Democrats might actually stand a chance of convincing him to give up the position, but they’ve abandoned all hope of such an outcome following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life on Saturday during a rally in Pennsylvania. And with that, their chances of winning in November have gone up in flames.
There was already not much of a chance for Biden to defeat Trump, but after taking a bullet to the ear, standing up and being defiant in epic American fashion, there’s really no hope for Democrats. I’m boldly going to predict a red wave come November. The GOP will likely take control of the entirety of Congress, while having control of the White House and the Supreme Court.

Democrats hoping that President Joe Biden will drop out of the election race fear their chance of replacing him on the ticket is all but gone in the wake of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump over the weekend, according to a report. After two weeks of intense media scrutiny around if and when Biden would drop out following his disastrous presidential debate performance, attention has now shifted to the attack on Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania and the Republican National Convention, which starts Monday. “I think this is over,” one Democratic aide told Politico, arguing that the news storm weakening Biden had now passed. Axios separately reported that Democrat lawmakers’ immediate focus had moved to their personal security and the safety of their staffers rather than the party’s political crisis. “We’re all just focused on expressing condolences … and keeping our teams safe,” one House Democrat, described as having been “fiercely critical of Biden,” told the outlet.
Axios says that a group of House Democrats who hover around the center politically, took Biden to task over the weekend in a “tense” and “awful” meeting that was supposed to help stem defections in Congress.
- “That was a complete disaster. We saw the same Joe Biden from the debate,” said one House Democrat on the call.
- “It was awful,” said another lawmaker.
- A third told Axios: “Members were not holding back … it got tense with Crow for sure.”
What we’re hearing: Biden huddled virtually with the center-left New Democrat Coalition as part of an outreach campaign to Capitol Hill to try to stem the flow of statements calling for him to drop out.
- Reps. Marc Veasey (D-Texas) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.) grilled Biden on how he plans to turn his campaign around, according to two lawmakers.
- In response to Veasey asking how Biden plans to win back disaffected voters, Biden said in part that members need to do a better job advertising his administration’s accomplishments.
The goose is cooked as they say. Stick a fork in the Biden reelection campaign because that bad boy is done with a capital D-O-N-E.
