Tensions between Vice President Kamala Harris, now part of a rare club of elite female failures who have lost to President-elect Donald Trump, and First Lady Jill Biden were so thick on Monday you could choke on it. Both women were seated next to each other during a Veterans Day commemoration that was held at Arlington National Cemetery, but the one barely acknowledged the presence of the other during the event. As Harris strolled into the commemoration with hubby Doug Emhoff on the observation balcony, greeting other folks in the vicinity, the first lady didn’t even look at her. Brrr. Bit chilly out.
However, the truly awkward moment came when Harris actually reached past the first lady in order to shake a person’s hand, but then turned around and walked away without extending a greeting to Mrs. Biden.

Later on in the day, both women sat together with stoic masks for faces. Dr. Biden held a flat expression underneath oversized sunglasses while Harris clung on to a polite smile for the cameras.

Despite a balmy 72-degree day in Washington, D.C., the contempt felt between Harris and Jill Biden was ice cold, the Daily Mail reported. Jill Biden spoke enthusiastically with Emhoff, someone she has long been close with. But once Harris took her seat, the First Lady turned her attention to the ceremony. The cold shoulder may have a simple explanation: Jill Biden is still furious with the vice president for scheming to force her husband from the race. Following Harris’s loss last week, Democrats have begun to blame President Joe Biden for failing to honor his commitment to being a “bridge” president for the next generation of candidates. Observers like podcaster Charlamagne Tha God and Joe Rogan have argued that Biden should have announced his decision to not seek reelection after the 2022 midterms, giving Democrats ample time to hold a primary and avoid the coronation that ultimately doomed Harris’s chances.
The animosity between Harris and Jill Biden stretches back to the 2020 campaign when the First Lady never forgave Harris for attacking her husband during the Democratic primary. Harris specifically targeted Biden’s support for the 1994 criminal justice reform bill, saying he and former President Bill Clinton helped put millions of Black Americans behind bars for minor crimes.
The event on Monday is the first time the two women have seen each other face-to-face since the election. The president and his wife did not bother to interact with Harris as he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Both pairs, in total silence, made their way over to the amphitheater where Joe Biden gave an address to veterans and other members of the military. All were sporting black as a sign of mourning.
And yet, despite the obvious anger Jill Biden has for Kamala, she still went to several swing states to campaign on her behalf and try to inspire Democrats to show up to the polls and vote against Trump. During a speech she gave, Biden tried her hardest to make it look like the two of them had become good friends over the course of the administration’s term.
“As Kamala and I have gotten to know each other these past four years, you know, we bonded over many things, but one of the things that we talked about is how we lost our mothers, both to cancer, both long before we were done needing them,” the first lady stated earlier this year.
If a Democrat’s lips are moving, a lie is for sure being told.
