Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde took a moment during what was supposed to be a “bipartisan prayer service held in Washington, D.C. and transformed it into an opportunity to virtue signal, pleading with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, who were in attendance, rather than preach the gospel or call for the nation to unify under the new administration. This is truly one of the most pathetic displays I’ve seen take place in a house of God. What’s even worse is that the Bible clearly condemns the idea of a woman being a priest or pastor in charge of men. Only men are to occupy these positions. So she’s just offending the Lord left and right.
As the cameras rolled on the event, Budde gave her highly emotionally charged speech, begging Trump to “have mercy” on those who are part of several progressive pet causes, such as LGBTQ young people and illegal migrants. Both Trump and Vance did not appear to be thrilled with the message, going on to exchange glances a few times and seemingly rolled their eyes at the liberal bleeding heart garbage spewing full force from Budde’s mouth.
“Let me make one final plea, Mr. President. Millions have put their trust in you. And as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” Budde begged from the pulpit, according to Trending Politics News.
“The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors,” Budde added during the message.
It didn’t take long for folks to start reacting to what they witnessed during the prayer service, as many cited as another example of leftists hijacking religious institutions as a means of pushing a godless, unbiblical agenda. You’d think this would lead Budde to spend some time in earnest reflection and deep prayer, reading the Scriptures to see if what she’s doing with her life and what was said at the event line up with God’s Word.
Nope.
Instead, she actually doubled down. According to Budde, it was her duty to counter Trump.
“I was looking at the President because I was speaking directly to him. I was also, frankly as you do in every sermon, speaking to everyone who was listening through that one-on-one conversation with the President, reminding us all that the people that are frightened in our country, the two groups of people that I mentioned, are our fellow human beings,” Budde went on to say during a Wednesday CNN interview.
But despite her insistence that her message wasn’t an overt political message, Budde has a history of left-wing activism. According to reporter Charlie Spiering, Budde is not just a religious leader but also a political activist, having been a donor to former President Barack Obama. Financial records confirm that Budde contributed $250 to the Obama for America campaign in 2012, with a year-to-date total of $290. The donation was filed under her occupation as clergy for the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Her son, Amos, is also politically-involved; he works with a former head of Barack Obama’s campaign team and contributes to George Soros’ Swing Left Pac, according to Real Clear Politics’ senior reporter Paul Sperry.
Budde then said during the interview, “I wanted to counter as gently as I could with a reminder of their humanity and their place in our wider community. And I was speaking to the president because I felt that he has this moment now where he feels charged and empowered to do what he feels called to do. And I wanted to say, you know, there is room for mercy.”
She was then asked what prompted her to make the comments, she said, “These are the people that I know. These are not abstract people for me. These are actual people that I know. So I wanted to speak on their behalf.”
“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater,” Trump said in a post published on Truth Social early Wednesday. “She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way.”
“She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart. She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA,” the president concluded.
