Gregg Jarrett, legal analyst with Fox News stated during the Monday edition of “Fox & Friends” that Judge Merchan, who is presiding over President-elect Donald Trump’s case, is “desperate to stain” him with the label of “convicted felon” before the inauguration which is to be held on Jan. 20. Jarrett then took an opportunity to call out New York officials over their focus on Trump despite all of the crime happening in the state. And that, my friends, is a most excellently made point.
” I think Merchan is desperate to stain the incoming president with the label convicted felon. And understand, under the law, Trump is not officially convicted of anything until he’s formally sentenced, even though many in the media, of course, began immediately and incorrectly calling him a convicted felon when the jury verdict came in,” Jarrett said during the segment.
He then added, “That was the whole goal of indicting Trump and putting him on trial. Democrats assumed their politically driven lawfare campaign would destroy him. Instead, you know, it had the opposite effect. Voters saw it for what it was: a corrupt weaponization of the law, and it backfired spectacularly.”
Here’s a transcript of the additional comments Jarrett made on the program via Fox News:
Many Americans recognize this was a sham trial, a preordained outcome. It drove a lot of them to Donald Trump and he won. And it’s one of the reasons why these George Soros-funded progressive district attorneys have ruined major cities in blue states. Alvin Bragg is a prime example. If you’re Trump, a misdemeanor business records violation somehow becomes a phantom felony. And in the end, nobody actually knew what he was convicted of. And it wasn’t a unanimous jury verdict. The best we can tell, nobody really knows. A bedrock violation. Bragg goes after, you know, Good Samaritans like Daniel Penny or a bodega worker who dared to defend himself when he was attacked. And he goes after a politician for purely political reasons. This is what Alvin Bragg has brought to New York City.
Last Friday, Trump’s efforts to have the New York criminal case concerning an alleged hush money payment to be tossed out were shot down. Judge Juan Merchan said no to the president-elect’s request to vacate the verdict in the case, which was based on the immunity decision reached by the Supreme Court. Sentencing for the soon-to-be commander-in-chief is scheduled for January 10 at 9:30 a.m. Trump has been given the option of either appearing in person or virtually. Merchan has made clear he will not be sentencing Trump to any jail time.
“Bragg, in November, requested to Judge Juan Merchan that the case be stayed until the end of Trump’s second term, but Trump attorneys noted that the Office of Legal Counsel in the Justice Department concluded that ‘the categorical prohibition on the federal indictment of a sitting president…even if the case were held in abeyance…applies to this situation,'” the report continued.
They then went on to say that district attorney’s “ridiculous suggestion that they could simply resume proceedings after President Trump leaves Office, more than a decade after they commenced their investigation in 2018, is not an option.”
The legal team representing the president-elect said the case “would never have been brought were it not for President Trump’s political views, the transformative national movement established under his leadership, and the political threat that he poses to entrenched, corrupt politicians in Washington, D.C. and beyond.”
The whole thing was nothing more than lawfare designed to take out Trump either in the public eye by labeling him a “convicted felon,” or disqualifying him for the position and removing him from the 2024 playing field. It was a strategy doomed for failure from the beginning and boy did it ever blow up in the faces of the deep state.
Anyone else excited for the inauguration?
