The United States Senate confirmed yet another Cabinet pick from President Donald Trump, this time it was for the position of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Scott Turner, a former professional football player, was confirmed in a 55-44 Senate vote on Wednesday. Democratic Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Peter Welch of Vermont voted al0ngside every Republican member of the upper chamber.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, took to the Senate floor to deliver a speech saying that Turner will be facing a “big job” at HUD, however, he’s confident that he “has the grit, the determination, and passion to get it done.”
“This is an important role. Our country is facing a housing crisis affecting big cities, rural areas, tribal lands — literally every part of our country. Higher construction costs and burdensome regulations have made homebuilding challenging. And what homes are on the market are too pricey for many Americans,” Thune went on to say. “Many parts of the country have homelessness challenges. Too many distressed communities are struggling to turn their fortunes around,” Thune added. “And despite a windfall of additional funding for HUD, these problems are, in many cases, getting worse.”

Turner will now turn his attention to implementing plans atop a department with a $70 billion budget and 8,000 employees, including on housing costs and the U.S.’s homelessness crisis, which the ex-NFL player cited specifically during his confirmation hearing.
“HUD is failing at its most basic mission, and that has to come to an end,” Turner commented. “As a country, we’re not building enough housing. We need millions of homes, all kinds of homes: multifamily, single-family, duplex, condos, manufactur[ed] housing, you name it.”
This marks the 12th confirmation of a Trump nominee by the Senate in a period of less than three weeks. And it isn’t going to be the last either. In fact, the chamber is also expected to confirm Russell Vought to be the head of the Office of Management and Budget come Thursday evening.
On top of that there’s hope that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will also get confirmed, which is proving to be a massive fight at the moment. You can immediately tell which of the picks Trump makes threatens the big government goons in Congress the most by who they come out the hardest against. The more they hate a pick, the higher the threat they pose.
And that’s how you know Trump is on the right track. He’s made the right picks and has the correct policy positions. We really are going to take back this country and undo the damage the left has done. At that point, it’s on us to keep it all this way by voting more like-minded conservatives into positions of power and influence once Trump is gone from the presidential picture.
