Republican Congressman Andy Biggs of Arizona announced some truly heart-shattering news with his constituents and supporters on social media, revealing that his daughter, Cosette, lost her fight with the scourge of humanity known as cancer. We can send a bunch of lame-brained pop stars to space, but can’t cure cancer? Really?

In a statement that’s going to punch you so hard in the feels you might just gush tears, Biggs said, “Earlier this week, our daughter Cosette lost her battle with cancer. We are devastated by her passing, but take comfort knowing she is at peace with the Lord.”

Biggs, who represents the 5th District in his state, went on to write of his gratitude for being able to be by his daughter’s side as her life finished its course. “We are grateful our family could gather together to spend her final days by her side,” the statement said.

Cosette’s battle with cancer and her passing have drawn an outpouring of support from across the political spectrum and the Arizona community. Biggs acknowledged this in his message, saying, “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and support.”

“We are humbled by this great community and the outpouring of love for Cosette and our family.” As one of the more prominent voices in Arizona’s political landscape, Biggs has often championed conservative causes on Capitol Hill.

Biggs and his family are asking for folks to keep them in their prayers and to provide them with privacy while they grieve this horrible loss.

Reps. Eli Crane of Arizona, Tom Emmer of Minnesota, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, and Jim Baird of Indiana were among them.

“There is no greater loss than the loss of a child. I extend my deepest condolences to Representative Biggs and his entire family during this trying time,” Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, wrote about the passing of Biggs’ daughter. This is a pretty classy statement from a Democrat, I have to say. Good on her.

Biggs is currently running for Arizona governor in 2026.

I imagine this loss is going to make it extremely difficult to campaign. At least at first. Ultimately, it might become a source of inspiration to spur him on in the race when things get fired up.

Losing a child is something that every parent dreads. You feel helpless and alone. Confused and devastated. You have time to just sit and think about what the world will be like without this person you love, a human being you helped create. This isn’t just another person dying. It’s a part of you.

God bless the Biggs family.
