In an interview with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, one of the worst journalists alive today, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, attempted to corner him about the current tariff strategy being implemented on foreign countries by the Trump administration. She believes they haven’t thought this whole thing through.
However, the response by Bessent demonstrates clearly that President Donald Trump knows exactly what he’s doing.
“Everybody sit back, take a deep breath, don’t immediately retaliate. Let’s see where this goes, because if you retaliate, that’s how we get escalation,” Bessent went on to say in the interview with CNN’s Kaitlin Collins.
The president announced on Wednesday that the administration would be slapping a 10 percent baseline tariff, along with retaliatory tariffs on some of our nation’s greatest allies.
“Some of the most notable tariffs include an additional 34% on China, 20% on the European Union, 24% on Japan and 32% on Taiwan. He also announced that a 25% tariff would go into effect at midnight on all foreign-made automobiles,” CBS Austin reported.
You’ll notice that both Canada and Mexico are not on the list. This is because of the current trilateral free trade agreement that exists between the nations.
“This is one of the most important days, in my opinion, in American history. It’s our declaration of economic independence,” Trump said to the crowd.
The baseline tariff goes into effect on Saturday while reciprocal tariffs won’t start until April 9.
“Remember the history of trade, we are the deficit country. The deficit country has an advantage,” Bessent went on to say. “The are the surplus countries, the surplus countries traditionally always lose and kind of trade escalations. As a professor of economic history, I advise against it.”
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins seriously tried to corner Trump’s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the tariff strategy.
She thinks they haven’t thought this through.
He shows, in a masterclass, Trump knows what he’s doing.

Clearly, Collins is no economic genius, but even she shows a complete lack of brain power when it comes to understanding the strategic thinking and planning behind the use of tariffs.
We want America to become a strong nation again. That means we need to stop allowing other countries to take advantage of us. Trump wants to force cheaper trade agreements for the U.S. to cut costs and pay down the national debt. But that’s not all.
He also wants to force manufacturers who have moved their production companies overseas to come back home to the U.S. This will also make foreign goods more expensive and lead to Americans buying more products made right here on U.S. soil.
If you want to have a strong nation, if you want to see America become a superpower again, this is the path forward. The more money we save, the less debt we have, the stronger we become on the world stage.
And, of course, the more revenue we have to rebuild our military forces and beef up national defense. Too bad this all goes over the head of the average liberal.
