President Donald Trump got some good news on Thursday, as what has come to be known as the “big, beautiful” omnibus bill has officially passed the House. Many in Congress are calling this a miracle, believing that Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, has pulled off the impossible.
The vote, which ended 215-214 along party lines, will not send the tax cut bill over to the Senate where it will receive substantial edits before being volleyed back to the House for one last passage. It’s a long, hard road to passing legislation that legitimately helps Americans.
Passage of the bill demonstrates that Speaker Johnson is probably one of the best Republicans to hold the position in a very long time, which isn’t exactly the way it seemed it would shake out early on. When the bill looked to be in danger, he called on the president who warned anyone who tanked the legislation would face his wrath.
“Don’t f**k with Medicaid,” Trump allegedly said to the GOP caucus during a Wednesday meeting, Politico said. The sharp warning from the president was aimed at fiscal hardliners who told Speaker Johnson they were going to stand in opposition of the bill unless cuts were increased.
The bill already slashes hundreds of billions of dollars, so additional cuts aren’t really necessary at the moment. We’re taking the scissors to a bunch of waste spending already.
“In the next breath, he then ridiculed moderate Republicans who have whined that SALT deductions weren’t expansive enough, despite already being quadrupled from their current $10,000 limit,” Trending Politics News said. “Trump took a victory lap on Truth Social Thursday morning shortly after his domestic agenda made it over the first finish line.”
“This is arguably the most significant piece of Legislation that will ever be signed in the History of our Country! The Bill includes MASSIVE Tax CUTS, No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, Tax Deductions when you purchase an American Made Vehicle, along with strong Border Security measures, Pay Raises for our ICE and Border Patrol Agents, Funding for the Golden Dome, “TRUMP Savings Accounts” for newborn babies, and much more!” he said in his post.
“Great job by Speaker Mike Johnson, and the House Leadership, and thank you to every Republican who voted YES on this Historic Bill! Now, it’s time for our friends in the United States Senate to get to work, and send this Bill to my desk AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!” The president added.
Johnson took an opportunity to thank his colleagues for making concessions, while also praising the whole caucus for standing united while the Democratic Party continues its swift descent into chaos.
“After a long week and a long night and countless hours of work over the past year, a lot of prayer and a lot of teamwork, my friends, it quite literally is morning in America,” Mr. Johnson said after 6 a.m. following an all-nighter of a debate on the House floor, the NYT reported. “After four long years of President Biden’s failures, President Trump’s America First agenda is finally here, and we are advancing that today.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m still not sick of the winning.
