Rep. Tim Burchett, a Tennessee Republican, might be one of the funniest members of Congress. He put his sharp wit and unapologetic candor on full display when a reporter demanded that he give assurances that Medicaid would not get hacked to pieces like one of those deviant teenagers in a Friday the 13th movie.
Burchett didn’t miss a step, responding to the reporter by saying, “How can you assure your nana that you still support her after she told you chocolate milk comes from brown cows?” In the words of Sheldon Cooper, “Ba-Zinga!”
The reply, chock-full of his usual humor, delivered a sharp point concerning the current state of political discourse in our nation’s capital and the propaganda that major legacy media outlets continue to push for the sake of their Democratic Party overlords.
Rep. Tim Burchett is a national treasure:

As you probably already guessed, radical liberals rushed out of the shadows like cockroaches after the lights go out and immediately ripped into Burchett for being dismissive. What these soulless androids fail to understand is that the kind of response the Tennessee Republican gave is a much-needed rebuke to the constant fearmongering tactics employed by the mainstream media whenever the topic of entitlement reform is broached.
Progressives and their allies in these outlets continue trying to convince average Americans that anytime a conservative or moderate dares to bring up the issue of fiscal responsibility in government entitlement programs, it’s a heartless assault on the poor. People aren’t falling for it anymore.
Looking at an article published by CNN in 2018, we can see this strategy has been used for a long time. For years, liberal outlets and networks have spoon-fed consistent narratives and portrayals of Republicans attempting to get a handle on out-of-control government spending by attacking the poor, disabled, and elderly to their viewing audience.
Around the same time the article was published, President Donald Trump, in his first term, suggested a few modest reforms be made to the Medicaid program. Without wasting a breath, The Washington Post and CNN pulled the proverbial fire alarm saying the administration was about to start “slashing healthcare for the poor” despite the proposals focusing on removing waste, fraud, and abuse instead of cutting legitimate benefits.
The response from Burchett shines a spotlight on the ridiculousness of this kind of framing. It reveals the underlying agenda of left-wing media, which isn’t asking this question because it cares about people being negatively impacted by budget cuts, but in pushing forward a partisan narrative.
Democrats might now want to admit it, because, let’s face it, this isn’t a popular view, but the Medicaid program truly needs reform, a fact that Forbes noted in a piece published in 2020.
With that being the case, it’s time to stop shying away from hard conversations concerning entitlement programs and work toward legitimate reform that will reduce waste and fraud while preserving the program for those who need it.
