The Obamas continue to be the subject of rumors circling around the internet concerning the crumbling of their marriage, which both have denied separately. However, the denials don’t seem to have taken effect. With the rumors persisting, the two finally decided to take the claims head-on in a joint sitdown conversation.
However, the chat took place on former first lady Michelle Obama’s podcast, which is fairly safe ground. Not like they have to worry about a journalist asking tough questions to challenge the narrative they push out.
The podcast, which is co-hosted by her brother, Craig Robinson, have whole episodes that are dedicated to their family lives. On rare occasions, Obama has taken an opportunity to chat about her marriage with former President Barack Obama.
Rather than kick the episode off with some small talk, the three got right into the thick of things, addressing the rumors of an impending divorce.
“What, you guys like each other?” Robinson wisecracked. Michelle replied flatly, “Oh yeah, the rumor mill.”
“She took me back!” the former president joked before going on to add that their marriage was “touch-and-go for a while.”
Michelle then commented about how nice it was to once again be in the same room as her husband.
“When we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced,” she quipped.
Here’s more from Trending Politics News:
Speculation about the state of the Obamas’ marriage has grown since Michelle skipped Jimmy Carter’s funeral in December, a bipartisan affair that saw President Obama sit near President Donald Trump, laughing as the latter invited him to play golf together at one of his lavish courses. In contrast, Michelle has made clear through allies that she’ll no longer entertain the niceties of honoring President Trump, whom she has publicly referred to as a “convicted felon” and a “known slumlord” in past speeches or private comments.
However, when it comes to her husband, Michelle made a heartfelt statement about her 33-year marriage.
“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man,” she stated during the program. “And we’ve had some really hard times. So we had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
Robinson then shared an encounter with a fan during a recent trip to Wichita, Kansas, where the individual asked about the state of Michelle and Barack’s marital bliss.
“This woman came up to me and she was so nice, she’s like, can I have a picture?” he recounted. “You know how you get the side hug, and she’s like, ‘What did he do? What makes you think he messed up?”
During the conversation, the former president said he doesn’t put a whole lot of thought into what the public thinks about his marriage.
“These are the kinds of things that I just miss, right? So I don’t even know this stuff’s going on. And then somebody will mention it to me, and I’m all like, ‘What are you talking about?’ he said.
Behind the scenes, however, persistent rumors circulated that Michelle had grown increasingly distant from her husband after his time in elected office came to an end. She also reportedly rebuffed entreaties by Democratic Party leadership to run for president in 2024, saying she was done with politics altogether, including refusing to be heavily involved in Kamala Harris’s campaign.
Obama then said that after the election, he had sunk into “deep debt” with his wife for quite a while. Does this mean their marriage is over? Doesn’t seem like it, but it could all be an elaborate act.
