Investigative journalist Matt Taibbi made an appearance on Chris Cuomo’s show where he revealed his belief that there are going to be some very serious indictments made related to what he referred to as “Obamagate.” This, of course, is a term being bandied about by some in the political sphere as a description of misconduct by the Obama administration, particularly related to the actions taken during the FBI’s investigation into alleged election interference by Russia in 2016.
Taibbi spoke during the interview and said that his prediction is largely based on his understanding of legal actions not just being about public opinion but a critical need for our country to avoid political failure when it comes to our justice system.
One point brought up during the discussion was the complexity of legal proceedings, which included some mentions of the Durham investigation that looked into the Russia probe carried out by the FBI and it’s head honcho, James Comey. No significant findings concerning misconduct on behalf of the bureau were found in that investigation, nor were there any recommendations for criminal prosecution.
The investigative journalist then noted that the email scandal featuring twice-failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was relevant to potential indictments since they would involve that particular incident being part of a bigger, wider-ranging conspiracy case.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley released declassified documents related to the FBI’s investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server when she served in the federal government, revealing the FBI reportedly “failed to fully investigate” the matter.
“This document shows an extreme lack of effort and due diligence in the FBI’s investigation of former Secretary Clinton’s email usage and mishandling of highly classified information,” Grassley stated in a press release at the time.
“Under Comey’s leadership, the FBI failed to perform fundamental investigative work and left key pieces of evidence on the cutting room floor,” he went on to say. “The Comey FBI’s negligent approach and perhaps intentional lack of effort in the Clinton investigation is a stark contrast to its full-throated investigation of the Trump-Russia collusion hoax, which was based on the uncorroborated and now discredited Steele dossier. Comey’s decision-making process smacks of political infection.”
Clinton, who served as former President Barack Obama’s secretary of state from 2009 to 2013, was investigated by the FBI over claims she improperly stored or transmitted classified materials on a private email server. The FBI advised the Department of Justice in 2016, ahead of that year’s massive election that pitted Clinton against future President Donald Trump, that Clinton should not face prosecution over the matter.
The documents claim that then-FBI Director Comey, as well as other FBI leaders, obtained thumb drives related to their investigation into Clinton, but that the agency failed “to perform additional, targeted searches of the drives,” according to Grassley’s office.
In other words, they sought to protect Clinton’s candidacy for president in hopes of stopping President Trump. They wanted to bypass the will of the people for the sake of their own agenda. These folks need to face consequences for violating our sacred rights and principles. Here’s to hoping Taibbi is right.
