After 38,000 people signed a petition to shut down The Family Sex Show it looks like the performance has been axed. The petition claimed the show was profoundly irresponsible and wholly inappropriate. The show featured full frontal nudity. The show also explored topics such as non-sexual nudity and gender. It was aimed at children as young as five years old. The creators of the show said they received threats and have cancelled the entire tour.
The Family Sex Show featured topics such as consent, queerness, pleasure, and was due to perform in the Bristol’s Tobacco Factory this May. It had been cancelled due to the unprecedented amount of negative association. Its creators ThisEgg, who were advised by safeguard and educational specialists, claimed that they received violent, illegal, and extremist threats. They contend the audiences were given full information about the content before booking. They also contend this was done to make sure parents could make an informed decision about whether or not their children should watch it.
In a Twitter statement, ThisEgg said: “These public performances would have offered safe and positive learning to children, young people and guardians about rights, bodies, sex and relationships“.
Many Twitter users disagreed with this assessment and we’re very vocal in this disagreement.
I think this thread shows how protective parents are over children. This was never ‘family’ art. This is introducing explicit sexual content to children which thankfully got stopped. Safeguarding exists because of people like you

You seem confused. It’s not your job to educate other peoples’ children about sex. There are all sorts of controls around who gets to do that and in what context. Stick to entertainment.

These were not the only tweets to suggest that this was not about education or that it was the inappropriate venue for such education.
Should you have the energy and desire to educate young people on a chosen topic, you’d receive some significant support were your output age-appropriate and mindful of safeguarding. This project was not. This came across like grooming on every level.

Nowhere. You go nowhere with any show that sexualised children as young as 5. Safeguarding exists for a reason and you were completely guilty of ignoring that. Children should be children for as long as possible.

Another tweet highlights the fact that the publishers of The Family Sex Show suggest that children go online and look for animals who use self-gratification. I can’t even print it here what was actually put on the tweet because it just blocks it out as a naughty word. But you can see the tweet below.
Your materials suggest to children that they “use the internet to find some other examples of animals that masturbate”. Do you know anything about children & online safety? This is a horrific safeguarding fail and you shouldn’t be working with children if you think this is ok. pic.twitter.com/5JtpLk58Nv

Others bring up the very obvious concern that consensual sex is for adults and not minors. Logically a child cannot consent to sex or being shown adult sexuality topics.
“Violent and illegal threats and abuse” = parents who pointed out that it is unlikely that safeguarding assessments had been properly carried out.
“Consensual” is for adults, not minors. Children cannot consent to being shown adult sexuality.

In short this is a perfect reminder that even if the left does push an agenda, it still needs the silence of good people to move forward with that agenda. This is a perfect example of the public outcry ending something that is seen as detrimental to small humans and their development. If people en masse had such an outcry to every single infringement, every abuse, every push from the leftist agenda against our children, they would have to pull back.
There is a statement about Mr. John Stuart Mill from 1867 that says, “Let not anyone pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to come past their ends, then that good man should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on this subject.” To sum this up quickly and simply one could say, the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
This petition which has halted The Family Sex Show proves that when good men and women rise up in one voice with a singular concern against one common enemy, they can non-violently halt the evil which is intended to be inflicted upon them.
