Representative Bennie Johnson (D-MI) introduced the world to the House Select Committee’s sham, politically-motivated investigation into the events of January 6th with a fifteen-minute opening statement against the seditious Donald Trump and his domestic terrorist supporters.
If anyone expected the “bipartisan” committee to present a fair and balanced presentation about anything that happened on the 6th of January, they were immediately reminded of the true motives of the nine legislators. Johnson immediately pointed out that all members of Congress had taken a sacred oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. A pause and emphasis was placed on domestic.
Comparisons of rioters to the Ku Klux Klan also left little to the imagination, as did comparisons to the British redcoats who stormed and burned the original Capitol building in 1814.
Many viewers are also likely left wondering: Will the “other” side have a chance at rebuttal, or this is a one-sided assault on truth? Presumably, those who participated are already guilty.
To be sure, the entire set up of the hearing, particularly with its primetime placement, is entirely by design. The production is not simply interns running the show, but rather experienced industry executives who know how to produce convincing, dramatic shows.
Axios had previously published that “[t]he House’s Jan. 6 committee has turned to a renowned former network news executive to hone a mountain of explosive material into a captivating multimedia presentation for [their] prime-time hearing Thursday.”
Axios noted that James Goldston, a former president of ABC News, an industry insider who successfully ran programs such as Good Morning America and Nightline, was joining the live, televised hearings “as if it were a blockbuster investigative special.”
In a separate piece of its exclusive article, Axios also wrote that Goldston planned “to make it raw enough so that skeptical journalists will find the material fresh, and chew over the disclosures in future coverage” and wanted the production “to draw the eyeballs of Americans who haven’t followed the ins and outs of the Capitol riot probe.”
That last part is particularly noteworthy, as the sustained effort to paint the events of January 6th as a real insurrection inspired by then-president Donald Trump has kept up for almost a year and a half. Given the abject failures of Joe Biden and Democrats, the narrative around January 6th is truly the only arrow left in their quiver.
Therefore, the timing of this event is also no accident.
The Hill has reported that less than half of respondents – 45% – now saw Trump as being responsible for what transpired on January 6th. This is down from a majority just a few months ago. At the same time, the poll found that now fully 35% of respondents felt Trump was not responsible.
Between a failed administration that poses to culminate in a historic shellacking in November and waning public interest in the FBI-infiltrated “coup,” the American public was ripe for a renewed effort to propagandize what happened on January 6th, 2021.
