The FBI has arrested Republican candidate for Michigan governor Ryan Kelley for his alleged involvement in the January 6 Capitol riots.
Kelley, 40, was arrested in Michigan on Thursday and charged with a misdemeanor after a group of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building after Biden won the 2021 presidential election.
It comes just before the House Jan 6th Committee is set to begin the hearing about Donald Trump’s alleged involvement in the riot, despite Trump telling the public that they must “stay peaceful”.
In documents obtained by the FBI, Kelley can be seen inside the Capitol building on January 6 wearing a backwards baseball cap and rallying the crowd, but the court claims he did not enter the building at any time.
The footage shows Kelley walking outside the building under some scaffolding and up a set up steps as a crowd of Trump supporters pushed their way through cops and barriers to enter the Capitol building.
According to the FBI, the GOP candidate was caught on camera “assaulting and pushing past law enforcement officers” before climbing an “architectural feature” at the top of the stairs.

Last year, a blog called Michigan Tea posted a video clip of Kelley which appeared to show him shouting “Come on, let’s go! This is it! This is war baby!” The footage was shown on Detroit News but it has not been verified by authorities.
The paper posted another photograph which allegedly showed Kelley in a pair of sunglasses standing near a Trump 2020 sign, motioning to the crowd. According to the Detroit News, Kelley was wearing the same clothes he had worn when he attended a 2020 American Patriot Council “Judgement Day” rally in Lansing.
Kelley is one of five candidates running for the position of Michigan governor. He works as a real estate broker and polls undertaken last month by Michigan Information and Research Service indicated Kelley was the favorite to win the seat. His arrest will most likely take him out of the race, leaving 4 relative unknowns to contest the position.

He was arrested on 4 charges including knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct, knowingly engaging in any act of physical violence against person or property in a restricted building or grounds and wilfully injuring or committing depredation against property of the US.
In an official statement, the Attorney’s office for DC urged the press and public to remember we’re all innocent until proven guilty:
“A complaint is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” said the release.
“Because this is a pending case, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia has no further comment at this time.”
Kelley awaits a court hearing in Grand Rapids, western Michigan.
Meanwhile, the hearing against Trump is well underway as Democrats scramble to blame the former president for the actions of a handful of tactless protesters.
