South Dakota GOP Gov. Kristi Noem is celebrating the closing of her state’s last abortion center, a feat absolutely worthy of throwing a big bash, while also encouraging folks in her state to “redouble” their focus on helping pregnant mothers in crisis.
This is absolutely fantastic news. Abortion is, as I’ve said on many occasions, a modern-day holocaust, one that is happening right in our own backyard on a daily basis. Thousands of children are murdered in the practice every year, but it’s been allowed to continue for decades.
Thankfully, it seems we might be seeing the tide beginning to turn, if the leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court last month truly indicates the justices are planning to overturn Roe v. Wade and make it a state-by-state issue.
According to a report from the Daily Wire, Noem shared a statement concerning the closure on her Twitter account which included a link to a news story about the state’s abortion-free status.
“Abortions have stopped in South Dakota. We have prayed for this day, and now it is here,” Noem went on to say in the post.
“Now, we must redouble our focus on taking care of mothers in crisis. Help is available for you. Adoption is an option. You are never alone,” she continued.

This closure actually makes South Dakota the second state in the country to have abortion-free status. Oklahoma Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a new bill recently that will ban the vast majority of abortions at the point of conception, which is when life begins, contrary to the beliefs of the radical left.
“Although Roe v. Wade remains the law of the land, women can no longer get a legal abortion in two states, Oklahoma and South Dakota,” The New York Times said in their report on the closure report.
“In at least one other, Missouri, the only clinic is booked and not accepting new appointments. And in a fourth state, Wisconsin, clinics will not schedule abortions for after the end of the Supreme Court’s term in late June,” the piece added. “The only clinic in South Dakota, Planned Parenthood in Sioux Falls, which also served patients from North Dakota and Minnesota, performed its last abortion Monday, even though the state has not yet banned it.”
Noem commented last month that if the leaked draft from the Supreme Court is true and the justices overturn Roe, she would then call a special session in order to protect the lives of unborn children.
“If this report is true and Roe v. Wade is overturned, I will immediately call for a special session to save lives and guarantee that every unborn child has a right to life in South Dakota,” Noem wrote in a statement posted to Twitter.

Here are a few more details from The Daily Wire:
In addition, Noem announced two pro-life bills on the day of the March for Life demonstration in January. The governor’s office announced the pieces of legislation, with one bill seeking to ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat can be detected and another looking to ban telemedicine abortions in the state.
“Every human life is unique and beautiful from the moment it is conceived. Every life is worthy of our protection, worthy of the right to live,” Noem stated, taking a bold stand for the lives of the unborn. “We hope that this year’s March for Life will be the last and that the Supreme Court will finally protect every unborn life. But until that comes to pass, these bills will ensure that both unborn children and their mothers are protected in South Dakota.”
The office also pointed out “Governor Noem previewed her heartbeat legislation last year when she directed her Unborn Child Advocate to review South Dakota laws and ensure that we have the strongest pro-life laws on the books in South Dakota.”
This is absolutely awesome. Our hope and prayer should be to see Roe overturned and every single state in the Union become abortion-free. The lives of the unborn need to be protected. Without preserving their right to life, we cannot possibly protect any of our other liberties.
