News publication USA Today has deleted a total of 23 articles after an investigation was conducted into alleged fabrication by a reporter, according to an article published by the New York Times on Thursday.
A piece from WND revealed that Gabriela Miranda, who works as a breaking news reporter, has been accused of the fabrication. It seems the latest post that is on her USA Today page dates back to April 17.
Along with the deletions, her Twitter account has been deactivated.
Gee, a liberal news reporter who makes crap up and tries to pass it off as legitimate news? Who would’ve thunk it?
“The internal investigation, which took place over a period of several weeks, began after USA Today received an inquiry related to the veracity of details in an article by Gabriela Miranda,” Times media reporters Ben Mullin and Katie Robertson went on to write concerning the fabrications.
A report from Mediaite stated that Miranda resigned from USA Today as the investigation made progress.
The NY Times also revealed that Miranda attempted to meddle in the investigation into her conduct, which is pretty much a telltale sign someone has done something they know good and well they should not have done.
“During the investigation, USA Today concluded that Ms. Miranda took steps to deceive investigators by producing false evidence of her newsgathering, including recordings of interviews, one of the people said,” The Times report said.
Not long after the Times report came out, USA Today put up a note on the website in response to the mess.
“After receiving an external correction request, USA TODAY audited the reporting work of Gabriela Miranda. The audit revealed that some individuals quoted were not affiliated with the organizations claimed and appeared to be fabricated. The existence of other individuals quoted could not be independently verified. In addition, some stories included quotes that should have been credited to others,” the note read.
“As a result, USA TODAY removed 23 articles from its website and other platforms for not meeting our editorial standards. The headlines of the articles are listed below. Miranda has resigned as a reporter for USA TODAY and the USA TODAY NETWORK,” USA Today’s note continued.
The news outlet then published a list aimed at ensuring they don’t publish false content in the future.
A few items on that list from the Mediaite report include:
Improve our process for those who want to lodge complaints or request corrections.
Ensure stories have clear and sufficient identifying information for individuals quoted.
Ensure that reporters take appropriate steps at all times to verify source information.
USA Today’s note also included a list of the articles that were removed from their website, each one replaced by an editor’s note that reads, “This story has been removed from our platforms because it does not meet our standards.”
This woman just completely and utterly obliterated her career by not adhering to a standard of journalistic ethics. Was it really worth it?
The obvious answer is probably not. After all, she’s unemployed now.
