In a sad and shocking case that has baffled authorities, a non-profit founder and young father was fatally shot in the head while he was in bed sleeping next to his wife and the alleged gunman was an acquaintance of his.
Joshua Daniel Danehower, 33, a FedEx worker, was arrested for the murder of Gret Glyer, 32, by the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority at Dulles International Airport, Virginia police announced at a new conference earlier this week. Glyer’s wife, Heather, called 911 after hearing a loud noise and believing her husband had been shot, she told authorities. Police arrived and discovered Glyer dead at the scene. The Glyers have two young children under 2 years old who were home at the time and asleep, according to police.
As reported by Breitbart, Danehower allegedly gained access to the Glyer home through an unlocked back door, then proceeded to the master bedroom and discovered Glyer sleeping in bed with his wife at their home in Fairfax County. He then allegedly shot his friend before fleeing the house. Police were stymied by the lack of evidence at the scene but were led to Danehower via a tip by someone who told them to look at Danehower as a possible suspect.
Glyer’s wife, released a heartwrenching statement about her husband, describing him as her best friend and an incredible husband and father.”
“He had an amazing heart for helping the people who need it most, and I know that legacy will live on…I know that God is with me and has a plan for my life and for the lives of our children.”

Captain Jeff Hunt of the Fairfax County Police Department announced that Danehower appears to have acted alone in Glyer’s murder, but did not reveal a possible motive.
“Multiple rounds were fired at Mr. Glyer while he was asleep in bed,” Hunt said. “The investigation also revealed that Mr. Glyer’s wife was asleep at the time of the shooting and was lying in bed next to him.”
Danehower has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony and was held without bond.
Gret Glyer’s obituary listed the Virginia native’s many honorable achievements, including moving to Malawi to teach at African Bible College where he also founded a non-profit dedicated to building houses for widows and orphans, and helped to start a primary school for girls. He also launched the Washington, D.C.- based nonprofit DonorSee which provides a platform for donors to connect directly with those in need. Glyer also recently wrote a book called “If the Poor Were Next Door” which focuses on ways to end poverty.
He and his wife, a childhood friend and college classmate, began dating when he returned from Africa and the pair got married in 2018 and started their family a few years later.
A service for Glyer is scheduled to take place on July 1 at The Falls Church Anglican, the same church that Glyer attended. A GoFundMe account set up for his family has raised over $142,000 as of Friday morning.
