The response given by President Joe Biden to the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Friday was both deplorable and classless, as he used it as a chance to condemn “gun violence” and turn this awful tragedy into a political opportunity.
What in the world got into this man and made him think this kind of response was at all appropriate? Japan has strict gun control laws. They did not work when it came to saving the life of Shinzo Abe. Yet that point seems to be lost on Biden and his followers.
“While there are many details that we do not yet know, we know that violent attacks are never acceptable and that gun violence always leaves a deep scar on the communities that are affected by it,” Biden went on to say in his statement, according to Breitbart.
The president didn’t make a statement on the death of the former prime minister until around 9 a.m. Friday.
“I am stunned, outraged, and deeply saddened by the news that my friend Abe Shinzo, former Prime Minister of Japan, was shot and killed while campaigning,” the president remarked in his statement.
Biden then stated that he was sad that Abe was “engaged in the work of democracy” when he was murdered.
“Other leaders showed more urgency in expressing their condolences to Japan and the Abe family. Former President Donald Trump first reacted to the shooting of Abe around 1:00 a.m. EST and then later to news of his death at around 5:00 a.m., as Breitbart News reported,” the piece stated.
Abe was shot in both the neck and the chest area while on the streets in Nara City as he was campaigning for the Upper House election in Japan.
“Police identified the shooting suspect as Yamagami Tetsuya, 41, who allegedly shot the former prime minister with a handmade gun. Japan has some of the world’s strictest gun control laws, as they only allow citizens to purchase shotguns and air rifles after a lengthy legal process,” the report added.
Over the course of the last few months, Biden and many other Democrats have been working hard to try and find ways to push gun control legislation that would ultimately place heavy restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of the average law-abiding citizen following the horrific mass shooting at a Uvalde, Texas elementary school.
Biden has made calls for Congress to ban certain models of semi-automatic rifles that are being called “assault weapons,” along with putting a limit on the capacity of ammunition magazines.
This was most definitely not the right time to start calling out “gun violence” and to start politicizing this tragedy as a means of speaking out for gun control legislation to be passed, which anyone with common human decency would know.
Unfortunately, Biden’s not even sure what planet he’s on right now, let alone how to behave properly under circumstances such as these. Guess someone forgot to write up a little note card full of step-by-step instructions for the guy.
Let’s hope these comments don’t end up offending the family of Abe with their insensitivity and disrespect.
