The case of Brittney Griner, the America-bashing (she refused to appear on court for the national anthem following the death of George Floyd) WNBA player that was locked up in Russia for smuggling drugs into the country and faces 10 years in a Russian prison, just keeps getting more and more delicious.
First she pleaded guilty in the Russian court, so maybe Putin’s Russian Federation will show America how drug laws are actually enforced its drug laws and lock up the America-bashing athlete for awhile, which is awesome.
Then she, her coach, and her wife all lost their minds and started demanding that Brandon take action to spring her from the clink, something that doesn’t really seem to have really happened considering that she’s still locked up in Russia.
Next, another America-bashing basketball star, LeBron James, lost it and said “Now, how can she feel like America has her back? I would be feeling like, ‘Do I even wanna go back to America?’”
That led to a mixed response from the right, with some saying that Russia was more than welcome to have him and others focusing more on his hatred of America and hitting him for that.
Lebron then tried to “clarify” his remarks, with “clarify” meaning “walk them back after everyone freaked out on him for being so unpatriotic” in this case, saying:
My comments on “The Shop” regarding Brittney Griner wasn’t knocking our beautiful country. I was simply saying how she’s probably feeling emotionally along with so many other emotions, thoughts, etc inside that cage she’s been in for over 100+ days! Long story short #BringHerHome
And now another basketball star, Enes Kanter Freedom, a man who seems to be one of the few non-woke guys in the league, has waded into the squabble, bashing LeBron over the head with his remarks, hypocrisy, and walkback, saying:
You call it a step back, we call this a walk back. You are free to leave buddy or you can even volunteer for an exchange for her. Some people literally have NO idea what is it like to live in a dictatorship. Keep taking your freedom for granted.
Kanter has fought with LeBron before, particularly over the China issue. Fox News, reporting on that, notes that:
Kanter Freedom has been an outspoken voice on global issues, particularly aimed at Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who put out a warrant for his arrest over the free-agent NBA player’s ties to Turkish scholar Fethullah Gülen. Kanter Freedom also has been outspoken about China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims and has particularly been critical of James and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for not doing enough to raise the curtain on the issue.
Meanwhile, the drug smuggling WNBA player is still locked up, which is great for those that enjoy seeing America-haters get their just deserts, even if from Russia rather than America. And LeBron got humiliated, which is always fun as well.
