Former President Donald Trump, along with two of his children, had their questioning postponed Friday concerning a New York civil investigation into a few specific business dealings, a delay that comes as the result of the death of Trump’s first wife, Ivana.
Nice of New York Attorney General Letitia James to show a little compassion and mercy in this regard. I was beginning to think the woman and all of the New York government lacked any real humanity, what with the massive spike in crime ripping through her city and all.
“The ex-president, son Donald Jr. and daughter Ivanka had been scheduled for depositions — a term for out-of-court questioning under oath — starting as soon as Friday. But New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office said it had agreed to postpone them because of Ivana Trump’s death, announced Thursday,” Newsmax reported.
“We offer our condolences to the Trump family,” attorney general’s office spokesperson Delaney Kempner went on to say in a statement.
As of this writing, no new dates have been set yet for the depositions.
A message has been left with Trump’s legal team. The attorneys representing the former president’s children, Alan Futerfas, did not provide a comment to the news organization.
“Ivana Trump died at her Manhattan home at age 73. She was married to the former president wife from 1977 to 1992, and they had three children together: Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric,” the report went on to say.
“The medical examiner’s office hasn’t released a cause of death. Two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press that police are investigating whether Ivana Trump fell down the stairs and believe her death was accidental. The people could not discuss the matter publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity,” the report continued.
James has alleged that the former president’s company, the Trump Organization, inflated the values of its skyscrapers, golf courses, and various other holdings so they could receive loans, get approved for insurance, and many other benefits.
Trump has, of course, denied the allegations, going on to say that it’s common within the real estate industry to seek out the best valuations. He has also waved off the investigation into his business dealings as having a political motivation, referring to it as a “witch hunt” by Democrats and James.
“Trump’s deposition was looming as he lays the groundwork for a likely 2024 White House run but also faces growing scrutiny of his conduct in the 2020 election. There are investigations in Congress into his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection and in Georgia into his efforts to overturn his loss,” Newsmax reported.
Trump is probably right concerning the political motivation behind these investigations. Democrats are doing anything and everything they possibly can as a means of destroying the guy before the 2024 election.
Obviously, they feel threatened by him, otherwise they wouldn’t be trying to take him off the board. And they should be. With the horrific job Democrats have done while in office, more folks are likely to vote Republican in the next presidential election.
