Popular eighties rocker Pat Benatar has come out and announced she’s no longer going to performing her biggest hit on her new tour, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” out of respect for the victims of recent mass shootings and their families.
This is probably the stupidest thing I’ve heard this week, and given my profession, I see, hear, and read a lot of stupid things, which mostly come flying out of the mouths — or fingertips if its written — of liberals. However, this right here is just completely brain dead.
I mean, what does this song even have to do with mass shootings? Just because of the chorus lyrics? Seriously? That doesn’t make sense at all. It’s not referring to actual guns and bullets. It’s about romantic relationships for crying out loud. I’m seriously trying to make the connection, but it just won’t compute.
“Benatar, who was the first female artist to be played on MTV and is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November, explained the decision in a USA Today interview that was published on Thursday — along with her decision to add a cover of the Beatles’ ‘Helter Skelter’ to her lineup,” the Daily Wire reported.

“You’ve been singing those big vocal songs including ‘Heartbreaker’ on this tour. You’ve also been playing (The Beatles’) ‘Helter Skelter.’ Why that song?” USA Today asked the rock singer.
“Because I want to have some (expletive) fun!” Benatar responded. “We’re doing a lot of songs we don’t always play like ‘In the Heat of the Night’ and ‘I Need a Lover.’”
Benatar went on to note there were a few songs that fans always expect to hear during her performances, and while she tries to please the audience, there’s one song that she isn’t comfortable performing anymore.
“We have what we call the ‘holy 14’ — songs that if we don’t play them, you’ll give us (a hard time),” she said during the interview. “And we’re not doing ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’ and fans are having a heart attack and I’m like, I’m sorry, in deference to the victims of the families of these mass shootings, I’m not singing it.”
Benatar then concluded the interview by stating that she did not intend to get preachy on stage and lecture the audience but stated that she could not perform the song in good conscience.
Again, I still don’t see the connection. I mean, what?
“I tell them, if you want to hear the song, go home and listen to it,” the singer went on to say. “(The title) is tongue-in-cheek, but you have to draw the line. I can’t say those words out loud with a smile on my face, I just can’t. I’m not going to go on stage and soapbox – I go to my legislators – but that’s my small contribution to protesting. I’m not going to sing it. Tough.”
It’s this sort of thing that lends credence to the idea that liberalism is a mental disorder. Protesting mass shootings and gun violence by not singing your biggest hit, which is one of the main draws people have for coming to your shows is bad for business.
And nonsensical to boot.
This will have zero impact on preventing these shootings in the future, but thanks for the virtue signaling, Pat.
