Rep. Matt Gaetz Introduces New Legislation The IRS Is Going To Hate

Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz just introduced a bill that will ban the Internal Revenue Service from being able to acquire ammunition.

You just know the folks over at everyone’s least favorite government agency are just going to love this one. If you listen closely, you can actually hear progressives hissing in unison like a bag of angry cats.

The bill, known as the Disarm the IRS Act, would ban the agency, which is supposed to be all about tax collection and enforcement, from buying up ammunition, especially after they have already managed to stockpile over 5 million rounds.

Gaetz, according to Just the News, revealed that the IRS has already, just this year, bought $725,000 worth of ammunition. That’s a lot of bullets. What does the IRS need with all of that ammo, anyway? Isn’t the vast majority of the IRS just accountants?

“I’m not against stockpiling ammunition, but you shouldn’t have to be a D.C. accountant to do it; you ought to be a mechanic in Pensacola,” he said during an interview with Fox News. The Biden administration, Gaetz said, wants to “disarm Americans, open the border, empty the prisons,” and “still collect your taxes” with $725,000 worth of ammunition with which to do it.

Before the legislation can be considered by the full House of Representatives, it will need to pass the House Ways and Means Committee. Republican Reps. Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Paul Gosar of Arizona, and Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia all cosponsored the bill.

“Why is Biden trying to weaponize the IRS?” Duncan posted in a tweet. Rep. Gosar then went on to post they needed to disarm “this band of highwaymen and stop them from taking our money under the threat of violence.”

They already sort of do that, don’t they? If you don’t pay the amount of taxes the government feels you should pay, sacrificing huge chunks of your own hard-earned money to be spent on federal programs that you already know are going to violate your values and beliefs, they toss you in prison.

Isn’t that already a threat? Now they might be escalating things beyond that by using actual physical force to steal your money with. When does this stop being taxation and start being armed robbery?

“According to a Government Accountability Office report, in 2018, there were 2,148 law enforcement officers working for the IRS’s Criminal Investigation Division. They were armed with 4,461 weapons, including 15 fully automatic weapons and more than 5 million rounds of ammunition,” Just the News reported.

The division looks into “potential criminal violations of the Internal Revenue Code and related financial crimes in a manner that fosters confidence in the tax system and compliance with the law.”

“The American system of taxation is based on the premise that all income is taxable (which includes illegally earned income),” the IRS goes on to say. “In many instances, proving that a taxpayer willfully attempted to hide income from the Federal Government is an integral part of proving other criminal activity including fraud, money laundering or Bank Secrecy Act violations. Criminal Investigation continues to fulfill the important role of helping to ensure the integrity and fairness of our nations’ tax system.”

Look, the bottom line is that police powers should not belong to the federal government, but to state and local governments. It’s going to take a stiff reminder from the American people for the feds to understand this truth, which is a foundational principle from our founding fathers who distrusted any man who was given these kinds of powers, particularly within the federal government.

The Second Amendment is for the American people. It enables us to have the weapons we need to fight against tyranny from a corrupt and oppressive federal government. It does not mean the federal government can just militarize whatever agency it wants in order to enforce laws that are likely unjust in the first place.
