A nonprofit organization known as the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty has issued a warning about the newly revised Biden rule that they say will force health care professionals to perform transgender surgeries and abortions against their best medical judgment and potentially cause them to violate their religious consciences, due to the threat of severe financial penalties listed in the rule.
According to a new report from the Daily Wire, the nonprofit organization has decided to fight against this insanity in the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Becket, which represents a Catholic health care network and a group of close to 19,000 health care professionals is requesting the court to uphold the decision reached in the case of Franciscan Alliance v. Becerra, which would fend off the president’s new rule.
“Luke Goodrich, vice president and senior counsel for Becket, warned this week that the rule, dubbed the transgender mandate, could be used to compel hospitals and doctors receiving federal funds to conduct controversial transgender procedures and abortions, according to the National Catholic Register,” the report said.
“A hospital that would perform a hysterectomy for a woman with uterine cancer would also have to perform a hysterectomy for a woman who wants to transition to living as a man,” Goodrich went on to say. “If not, [it would be] guilty of sex discrimination and subject to multi-million-dollar penalties.”
Goodrich then stated that doctors and medical professionals who provide care to women who have miscarried, which, on occasion, includes dilation and curettage, might end up being forced to perform the procedure on a living child, which, of course, would be an abortion. Or, as honest people will say, child murder.
The doctors who refuse to perform the procedure, according to Goodrich, could end up being charged with discrimination and get slapped with major fines.
“Religious exemption is effectively at the discretion of the Biden administration, Goodrich warned, emphasizing that the revised rule does not provide a blanket exemption,” the report went on to say.
“Such a mandate has already been blocked multiple times before, the expert noted. Goodrich argued that the administration is still going forward with the revised rule, even if the court again rejects it, so ‘that others might just be cowed into submission [out of] fear of massive penalties,’” the Daily Wire reported.
“It seems like HHS is willing to treat these court losses in the injunctions as the price to pay for trying to change the norms in the medical profession,” the expert went on to say, later adding, “What they’re really trying to do is change the norms in the medical profession to include gender transition and abortion.”
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has already taken a stand against the revised rule, echoing the warning issued by Becket.
“Health and Human Services (HHS) issued proposed revisions to its regulations implementing Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which would force health care workers to perform gender transition procedures, require health insurance issuers to cover them, and entertain a mandate to perform elective abortions,” said a press release put out by the folks over at USCCB.
Religious liberty is critical as a foundational right for every American. It always has been. That’s why the founders codified it in the First Amendment. To ensure that the government would not have the power to do something that would violate a person’s religious beliefs.
